Retail and Rental Assistant Manager

The Retail & Rental Assistant Manager is responsible for supporting daily operations of the company’s retail and rental departments, ensuring the Sport Shop, Demo Center, Rental Center, and Snowsports Rental Center are proficient and efficient to ensure the highest quality experience and service for our guests. The assistant manager is required to possess technical expertise of winter sports equipment and have current knowledge of industry products and trends. This position is responsible for maintaining department standards, documentation, staffing, training, and clear communication with the Resort Retail and Rental Manager. This position is a KEY member of the Dodge Ridge Team and crucial for maintaining successful operations withing the departments.

GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

• This position requires a detailed oriented individual that excels in excellent guest service, willingness to teach technical aspects of skiing and snowboarding equipment and lead the Retail and Rental Shop staff by positive example and coaching.
• Assist with evaluating and directing staff to ensure adequate guidance and resources to accomplish established goals and objectives. Ensures that all employees receive training, support, and feedback. Empowers staff to deliver the highest standard of guest service.
• Maintains administrative processes such as staffing to ensure proper planning, efficient operation of departments and successful achievement of resort goals. Maintain a detailed, organized and accurate scheduling tool. Adheres to all company guidelines ensuring compliance in all aspects of position.
• Assists with monitoring and controlling daily, weekly and monthly expenses for operations against budget plan. Help meet or exceed financial goals.
• Support proper department timekeeping in accordance with company and government policy.
• Help facilitate training and directing Retail and Rental staff to properly fit equipment, tune equipment, adjust bindings in accordance with manufacturer specifications and best practices, promote sales, and ensure proper documentation is completed.
• Responsible for promoting a positive attitude within the organization and community.
• Maintain a well-organized system for retention of accident documentation and release of liability documentation including Snow Sports and Equipment Rental release of liability documents.
• Accurately facilitate and record daily Equipment Rental Inventory and maintain an inventory control system for equipment, small tools and inventory supplies.
• Contribute to team effort by assuming responsibility for the cleanliness of the resort and safety of guests and employees, lead weekly safety meetings, accepting diverse assignments, maintaining a positive and friendly attitude and demeanor in all internal and external interactions.
• Work closely with all managers to maintain and improve the resort's quality of experience for its guests.
• Ensures company standards are met or exceeded daily. Maintains and enhances a guest focused culture in all areas of responsibility.
• Maintains current status on technological advances which impact the industry, maintains awareness of scope and progress of competition.
• Ensure operations are conducted in accordance with our risk management program and focused on providing a safe work environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Demonstrates excellent communication skills with all levels of employees, guests and all other outside contacts of Dodge Ridge.
• Ability to delegate responsibility, motivate and lead direct reports to achieve goals and objectives.
• Ability to move around all areas of the mountain and base facilities to manage guest service experiences.

RESPONSIBILITIES TO SAFETY

• Responsible for taking a key role in EMERGENCY SITUATIONS under the direction of the Risk Manager.
• Protect the safety of self, co-workers, guests at all times.
• Report any potentially harmful equipment or situations to the immediate supervisor without delay.
• Report safety-related accidents and incidents at once to immediate supervisor.
• Follow all company and department safety policies and procedures.
• Operate equipment in a safe manner that will not lead to injury of yourself or others.
• Have the ability to effectively control and coordinate staff in an emergency situation.

Job Qualifications

• Minimum of three years of successful leadership in a relative winter industry environment.
• Be technically and mechanically minded, with strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to deliver excellent customer service, have strong sales personality and be able to sell all aspects of winter products.
• Excellent organizational skills, possess ability to work in a fast paced, task-oriented environment and maximize use of time.
• Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment. Must include Excel and skills in database management and record keeping.
• Must have cash handling, POS, inventory maintenance and loss prevention experience.
• Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions and percentages.
• Must have prior ski/snowboard technician experience.
• Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
• Must possess a valid driver's license and meet the Motor Vehicle Record qualifications as outlined in the Fleet Safety Program.
• Must possess or have ability to obtain Industry certifications such as boot fitting and binding certifications.
• Possess advanced skiing and riding skills.
• Be able to lift heavy and awkward items (up to 50 lbs.), and be able to walk on uneven ground.
• Must be eighteen years of age or older.

Work Schedules

Weather conditions and the number of guests play a large role in the work scheduling of Dodge Ridge employees.

When conditions are normal, you may be expected to work 40 up to 48 hours per week, including weekends and holidays. During busy periods, you may be expected to work six (6) days a week.

You must arrange for transportation to work so that you arrive at your designated workstation at the scheduled time. Keep in mind that you will often be required to drive on hilly, snowpacked, and icy road surfaces.

Working Conditions

At any time during the ski season, Dodge Ridge employees are often required to perform their tasks in high winds, heavy snowfalls, low visibility, rain, and extremely cold or warm temperatures.

Work is typically outside working directly with resort guests and other resort staff members. It can be noisy, cold, wet, or humid. You may be expected to work in high places and frequently you will work around moving objects.

Uniforms

A professional appearance at Dodge Ridge is required. Please wear your name tag and uniform at all times during your scheduled shift. We will provide most of the uniform for you to do your job. However, you will be required to provide some items as part of your job. The quality, color, and style of the items must be approved by your manager prior to being worn to work. All hats worn must have the Dodge Ridge logo while on shift. You must be well groomed, and present a good public image.
