Job DescriptionSCADA Engineer\nLocation: San Francisco, CA (Remote within the United States considered)\nEmployment Type: Full-Time\nOverview\nA growing organization within the energy sector is seeking a SCADA Engineer to support the\ndesign, implementation, operation, and maintenance of industrial control and automation\nsystems across utility-scale power generation and energy storage facilities.\nThis position works closely with engineering, construction, operations, and asset\nmanagement teams to ensure the reliable performance of SCADA, communications, and\ncontrol systems. The ideal candidate will have experience supporting critical infrastructure\nenvironments, troubleshooting complex automation systems, and coordinating with external\nstakeholders to meet operational and regulatory requirements.\nKey Responsibilities\n• Support and maintain SCADA, industrial control systems (ICS), and operational\ntechnology (OT) infrastructure.\n• Ensure systems comply with applicable cybersecurity, operational, and regulatory\nstandards.\n• Develop, maintain, and manage technical documentation related to SCADA,\nautomation, communications, and control systems.\n• Configure and support data exchange between power generation facilities and\nexternal market participants, grid operators, and third-party entities.\n• Manage communications between remote terminal units (RTUs), plant controllers,\nand external systems.\n• Review, maintain, troubleshoot, and improve SCADA applications and automation\nlogic.\n• Support facility model updates, validation, and performance monitoring activities.\n• Provide proactive monitoring and reactive troubleshooting for data acquisition,\ncommunications, and control systems.\n• Diagnose and resolve networking issues involving TCP/IP networks, routing,\nswitching, serial communications, and wireless infrastructure.\n• Collaborate with internal and external teams during project development,\ncommissioning, and operational phases.\n• Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on system reliability,\nperformance, and security.\nRequired Qualifications\n• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer\nEngineering, or a related technical field.\n• 3–5 years of experience supporting, maintaining, or designing industrial SCADA or\nautomation systems.\n• Experience working with utility-scale renewable energy, power generation, energy\nstorage, or related industrial facilities.\n• Familiarity with inverter-based resources and associated control systems.• Experience troubleshooting and developing solutions using technologies such as\nPython, Bash, and IEC 61131-3.\n• Strong understanding of industrial networking concepts, including TCP/IP,\nRS232/RS-485, routing, switching, and wireless communications.\n• Experience supporting critical infrastructure cybersecurity programs and compliance\nrequirements.\n• Ability to travel as needed to project sites and stakeholder locations.\n• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.\nPreferred Qualifications\n• Experience working with utility-scale solar, battery energy storage systems (BESS),\nor other renewable energy assets.\n• Knowledge of power system operations and grid integration requirements.\n• Familiarity with energy markets, grid operators, or utility interconnection processes.\n• Understanding of industrial cybersecurity frameworks and best practices.\n• Experience supporting commissioning, testing, and performance optimization\nactivities.\nCompensation & Benefits\n• Competitive base salary ranging from $135,000 - $150,000 annually, depending on\nexperience and qualifications.\n• Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage.\n• Retirement savings plan with employer contribution opportunities.\n• Generous paid time off and company holidays.\n• Flexible work arrangements, including hybrid or remote work opportunities where\napplicable.\n• Professional development and career advancement opportunities.\nWhat You'll Bring\n• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.\n• Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.\n• Attention to detail and commitment to operational excellence.\n• A collaborative approach to working across technical and non-technical teams.\n• A proactive mindset focused on reliability, continuous improvement, and system\nperformance.
