The Security Manager plays the critical role of leading a team of Security Officers who are tasked with protecting objects on display and maintaining order in their assigned galleries or those assigned to maintain order, reduce injury, assist visitors, and reduce property loss at the Museum.Leadership Responsibilities:Provide direct leadership to team of up to 20 Security OfficersConduct roll call, take attendance and make daily post assignmentsCounsel Security Officers, both verbally and in writing, related to job performancePartner with the Assistant Head of Security to complete performance evaluationsComplete written reports on security- and safety-related incidentsConduct individual and group training sessions on security related topicsConduct Security briefings and orientations for new Security team members as neededImplement museum and security department policies and procedures fairly and consistentlyMentor, train, and develop staff.Maintain a visible presence in assigned galleries to provide leadership and assist Museum guests.Create a detailed end-of-shift report containing relevant daily information to share with incoming Security Manager(s) and Security Officers to ensure all shifts are informed of museum activities and incidentsGeneral Responsibilities:Responsible for coordinating and supervising the daily operations of the MFAH's Security Officers; this includes daily report writing, security officer scheduling, performance management, payroll processing and the completion of comprehensive incident reportsEnsure security officers maintain a neat and tidy appearance at all times in accordance with established security department guidelines and carry required equipmentAccountable for the personal safety of all occupants of any MFAH-owned facilities and ensures the protection of all MFAH-owned assetsVerifies all third-parties (such as caterers, vendors, contractors, and other affiliates) follow MFAH Security policies and procedures and is able to apply corrective measures as necessaryInteract with guests to give directions, provide information and consistently enforce museum rulesThoroughly and routinely conducts the MFAH Security opening and closing procedures for all MFAH-owned properties, ensuring that all facilities remain secureServes as a member of the museum emergency response team, this position is designated as an Essential Employee and may be required to report to work, or to remain at work, during inclement weather or other emergency situationsProvides guidance, solutions, and resources for all MFAH staff, and its affiliates, in relation to Security procedural issues or incidents and ensures the adherence of all MFAH Security procedures, processes, and policiesAppropriately escalates Security issues and work performance issues to the proper personnel as necessaryEnsure adherence to department procedures, processes, and policiesMaintains and fosters effective working relationships with individuals and departments across a variety of areas within the MFAHParticipate in department projects and initiatives and provide knowledge and leadership in cross-functional project teamsAct as a resource for staff on procedural questions and concerns; provide solutions and escalate certain issues to the appropriate personnelReceive, address, and record accolades, comments and complaints from guestsManages and monitors Security staffing to ensure an adequate level of security coverage is provided at all timesIssue and collect equipment such as uniforms, radios and keysEnsure security officers understand and comply with post and special orders, department policies and operating proceduresTake charge of assigned areas during building evacuations and other emergencies; ensure that security officers are knowledgeable of emergency proceduresSkills, Knowledge, Abilities:Strong customer service mindset with ability to interact with the public to analyze situations and anticipate needs of guestsDemonstrated track record of managing a diverse work force, including hiring, training and motivating staffMust be proficient in English, both written and verbal communications skillsPresent a neat and tidy appearance at all times in accordance with established security department guidelinesAbility to write clear concise preliminary investigative reports, interview witnesses, victims, etc.Flexibility to work various shifts if needed and to work special events going past shifts scheduleSound decision-making abilitiesAbility to obtain and maintain First Responder, CPR and other related certifications on a yearly basisAbility to administer First Aid and CPR, including carrying first aid equipment and assisting with lifting and moving victims, if requiredPossess outstanding customer service skills and the ability to remain calm in the face of diverse and high stress encounters, i.e.: fire, medical emergency, extremely aggravated guests, and workplace violence situationsPossess basic computer skills and be able to learn software applications used by the departmentAbility to use radios, telephones and other equipment that may be assignedMay be designated as "essential personnel" and required to report to work or remain at work during inclement weather or other emergency situationsEducation and Experience:Bachelor's degree and/or five years of related experienceMust have a minimum of three years of experience in directly supervising and managing a team of security employeesMust be proficient with Microsoft Office and have basic business acumenQualifications also include a clear criminal background report, must be 18 years of age or older and have the ability to perform all tasks required of the position, with or without reasonable accommodationMust have in good standing or be qualified to obtain - level 2 Non-Commissioned Security Guard license with Texas Department of Public SafetySecurity personnel must pass a national criminal background check in order to maintain non-commission status through the Texas Commission on Private SecurityAll applicants are required to have a valid state issued ID or driver license in order to complete the application processBilingual is preferredWorking Conditions and Physical Demands:Ability to stand and walk for long periods including using stairsMust have accurate vision (22/20 or 20/40 with corrective lens acceptable).Ability to distinguish standard colorsAbility to hear normal conversation at a distance of 15 feetMust be able to lift, push and pull 50 lbs.Duties require standing for long periods of time and/or walking distances and climbing stairs throughout the work shiftWorking conditions may be indoors or outside, depending on assignment.
