Anticipated School Nutrition Manager

Job Description Primary Purpose: Supervises the preparation and serving of appropriate quantities of food to meet menu requirements. Maintains high standards of control in food production, sanitation, and safety practices. The School Nutrition Manager is responsible for the efficient operation of his/her assigned area and must uphold the policies and standards of the food service department. Start Date: July 2026 Salary Range: Minimum $19.11/hour (25‑26 salary schedule); salary commensurate with experience. Qualifications Education/Certification: High School diploma or GED; Texas Food Handler’s Certificate required; valid Texas Food Manager Certification or ability to obtain within 60 days of employment. Special Knowledge/Skills: Effective communication and interpersonal skills; effective planning and organizational skills; proficiency in multi‑tasking; knowledge of methods, materials, equipment and appliances used in food preparation; knowledge of operating an efficient, cost‑effective program; ability to read and speak English; ability to direct and manage personnel; competent basic bookkeeping and mathematics skills; professional appearance and cleanliness; ability to lift up to 50 pounds; ability to work in cold or below‑zero environments for short periods; ability to work in hot and humid environments. Experience: Minimum of 3 years in school food service or other institutional food service program. Major Responsibilities and Duties Maintain a valid food manager’s certificate. Manage food production, storage, and serving of wholesome, nutritious food using standardized recipes and production records. Assign and schedule work tasks for school nutrition employees. Handle all financial transactions related to meal service. Order food and supplies and ensure proper storage. Record, retain, and utilize food production records accurately. Maintain health requirements meeting or exceeding federal, state, and national regulations. Instruct and train new and existing child nutrition personnel. Attend all managers’ meetings and other meetings designated by the School Nutrition Director. Perform other duties as assigned by the School Nutrition Director. Supervisory Responsibility Food service staff at the assigned campus. Equipment Used All kitchen equipment and computer. Working Conditions Continual walking, standing, pushing and pulling; frequent stooping, bending, kneeling, and climbing (ladder); moderate lifting and carrying (up to 50 lbs.); exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures. Must maintain emotional control under stress.
