Schedule / Job Type

Contract | Days (07:00–19:30) | Full-Time | Onsite | Weekend requirement: 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule; holiday rotation required

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care in a fast-paced Short Stay Unit serving stroke, trauma, cardiac, and general medical patients (UTI, COPD, cellulitis)
• Maintain a 1:5 nurse-to-patient ratio in a 13-bed unit with high patient turnover
• Collaborate with PCTs, charge RN, and house supervisor present 24/7 to coordinate patient care, vitals, accuchecks, and hourly rounding
• Manage patients on Bi-PAP, C-PAP, and high-flow oxygen per PRN or scheduled orders
• Monitor patients using house-wide telemetry (Philips Monitoring); RNs are not required to independently read EKG strips
• Float to other departments as needed; travelers are first to float, with a team nursing approach applied when floated to higher acuity areas

Required Qualifications

• Active Illinois RN license (or confirmation that the application process has been initiated)
• BLS certification required
• NIHSS certification required
• General medical/surgical experience; comfort in a fast-paced environment with high patient turnover
• Must be able to pass a drug screen; facility maintains a drug-free campus policy
• Candidates with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility are subject to a local rate adjustment

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Experience with stroke, trauma, or cardiac patient populations
• Familiarity with Philips telemetry monitoring systems
• Experience working alongside patient care technicians in a collaborative team environment
