The State of New Hampshire, NH Fish and Game Department has a full-time vacancy for Biologist I Summary: To collect and analyze vegetation, wildlife, fish and water quality data by preforming field and lab work to determine short term and long-term changes in conditions at the Great Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree and 1.5 years of experience or equivalent combination of 5.5 years of education and experience after completion of high school education. Education and experience must be in wildlife, fisheries, coastal ecology, or a related field. License/Certification: Valid Driver’s License Other Requirements: Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) must meet the minimum standards as established by the agency. Ability to conduct physical tasks and work outdoors in inclement weather for extended periods, comfortable working in coastal environments including form a boat.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of species and habitats common to coastal New Hampshire. Ability to operate equipment needed to conduct field research. Excellent verbal and written presentation skills. Excellent organizational skills. Ability to work with databases. Ability to translate technical information for non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities: Prepares progress reports and data reports for state and federal agency partners and project funders. Conducts field research and biological investigation activities in estuarine habitats such as saltmarshes, eelgrass beds, oyster beds, mudflats, rocky intertidal and upland edge. Coordinates and operates field monitoring programs, including sampling, compiling, and analyzing data and writing reports on estuarine habitats, water quality and species; develops and implements long range management plans. Confers with interested parties to consider conservation needs of Great Bay estuarine habitats and collaborates on management plans, restoration plans, and monitoring plans. Speaks before groups and official gatherings as a representative of New Hampshire Fish and Game and the Great Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve. Responds to public, agency, academic and partner requests for technical assistance in areas such as field sampling, habitat assessments, and restoration planning. Assists Reserve staff in implementing GBNERR fellowships and internships, mentoring students and supporting volunteers.
