Surgical Technician

The Surgical Technician plays a vital role in assisting with surgical procedures by performing scrubbing duties. The technician is responsible for the preparation for procedures and supports the operative team through the maintenance of sterile supplies. Housing may be available, subject to availability, within walking distance of the work location.

What You'll Do

• Create and maintain a sterile field.
• Inspect sterile items for contamination prior to use.
• Anticipate the need for equipment and supplies before the procedure begins.
• Ensure all equipment is functioning properly prior to use.
• Operate and maintain mechanical, electrical, and air-powered equipment according to manufacturer's guidelines.
• Scrub for all surgical procedures, understanding the unique techniques and requirements of individual surgeons.
• Independently scrub specialty surgeries, including sports medicine and trauma, without the presence of a sales representative.
• Assist the RN with the completion of operative charge and recording of materials used during the procedure.
• Collect specimens and cultures, verifying source and correct tissue identification with the surgeon.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• A minimum of one year of experience in the operating room as a Surgical Technician or equivalent training is required.
• Certification or eligibility for certification is preferred.
• Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross is required.

Job Information

• Contract duration: 13 weeks
• Shifts: Varied 12-hour day and evening shifts
• Holiday coverage is required.
