The Mt Clemens facility is a key automotive coatings production site focused on delivering high-quality, innovative paint products to customers.Position Summary:The Engineering Manager is a critical site leadership role responsible for leading all engineering functions at the Mt. Clemens plant. This role ensures the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of manufacturing processes and infrastructure, while driving capital project execution, process optimization, and long-term site strategy.The Engineering Manager leads a team of process, project, and controls engineers and partners closely with Operations, Maintenance, EH&S, and Quality to deliver operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement.Key Responsibilities:Leadership & People ManagementLead, coach, and develop a high-performing engineering team across multiple disciplinesSet clear performance expectations and ensure accountability to site goalsBuild bench strength through talent development, succession planning, and recruitmentFoster a culture aligned to Axalta values, safety, and continuous improvementOperational & Technical LeadershipProvide engineering support to ensure safe, stable, and efficient plant operationsLead troubleshooting of complex process and equipment issuesDrive improvements in asset reliability, uptime, and process capabilityPartner with Maintenance to implement reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) strategiesProcess Safety & Regulatory ComplianceEnsure full compliance with Process Safety Management (PSM), OSHA, and environmental regulationsOwn and govern key safety processes including:Process Hazard Analyses (PHA)Management of Change (MOC)Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR)Job Hazard Analyses (JHA)Lead risk mitigation activities and ensure safe design and operation of processesCapital Projects & Site StrategyLead development and execution of the site capital plan, including:Safety and compliance projectsReliability and maintenance improvementsCapacity and growth initiativesManage project execution from concept through commissioningEnsure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and aligned to business objectivesPartner with corporate engineering teams to align to long-term strategyContinuous Improvement & ProductivityDrive Lean, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement initiativesUtilize data and metrics to improve:Cost efficiencyThroughputQuality performanceLead FMEAs, root cause analysis (RCA), and process optimization effortsFinancial & Budget ManagementManage the Engineering capital and expense budgetsEnsure effective allocation of resources across prioritiesDeliver cost control while supporting operational and growth objectivesCross-Functional CollaborationPartner with:Operations to support production performanceQuality to ensure product integrity and complianceEH&S to drive a strong safety cultureMaintenance to improve equipment reliabilityServe as a key member of the site leadership teamMinimum Qualifications:Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical preferred)7+ years of progressive engineering experience, including leadership responsibilityDemonstrated experience in chemical or manufacturing environmentsProven ability to lead teams and influence across functionsStrong experience with:PSM / PHA processesCapital project executionBudget managementPreferred Qualifications:Experience in coatings, chemical, or regulated manufacturing environmentsLean / Six Sigma certificationExperience managing multi-million-dollar capital projectsKnowledge of controls/automation systemsWork Environment and Expectations:Manufacturing / plant environmentAbility to support off-shift or weekend needs as requiredHigh visibility role requiring frequent collaboration and decision-makingAxalta operates its business in two segments: Performance Coatings and Mobility Coatings, which serve four end markets, including Refinish, Industrial, Light Vehicle and Commercial Vehicle, across North America, EMEA, Latin America and Asia-Pacific.
