Senior Patient Access Operations Coordinator

Senior Patient Access Operations Coordinator Responsible for coordination of business operations of the Patient Access Department, supervising, training, mentoring, and developing staff to ensure departmental objectives are met. Coordinates business and administrative operations of the 24/7 Patient Access Department, assists in managing financial aspects, and oversees quality assurance activities. Works with medical, nursing, and accounting staff to ensure appropriate patient placement and rotates call, weekend, and shift coverage as needed, including float between locations (SZ Campus, United Medical Center, and off‑site ancillary sites). Key Responsibilities Supervise, train, mentor, and develop all Patient Access staff. Conduct performance evaluations and manage staff performance goals. Establish work schedules, ensure proper coverage, and maintain a float pool. Process patient registration, verify insurance eligibility, enter charges and diagnostic codes, and manage billing system reports. Coordinate communication with other departments (Human Resources, IT, Purchasing, Engineering) and provide general office support. Perform administrative tasks such as payroll, time records, petty cash, and office supply ordering. Respond to inquiries and complaints in a timely manner. Promote safety for patients, families, visitors, and coworkers; validate and verify information for decision making. Participate in staff meetings and assist others when work is completed. Demonstrate flexibility, willingness to change, and identify opportunities to improve processes. Use resources efficiently and search for cost‑saving alternatives. Qualifications Associate’s Degree in Business Administration or Health Care (Required). Bachelor’s Degree preferred. 4 years of related and progressive experience (Required). 7 years of experience without a degree (Required). 1 year of supervisory or leadership experience in healthcare operations (Required). Computer literacy; demonstrated problem solving, root‑cause analysis, and critical thinking skills. High energy, self‑starter with the ability to work independently. Ability to set and accomplish goals and project deadlines timely. Ability to handle public and hospital staff professionally. Typing speed of 35–40 WPM; must pass typing and Microsoft proficiency assessment. Knowledge of insurances, medical terminology, and CPT‑4/ICD‑10 coding required. CHAA Certification within the first year of hire.
