Lead Structural Engineer / Stress Analyst (Subsea & Advanced Defense)

Pay Rate: $80.00 – $92.00 /hr. (W2 Contract-to-hire) Conversion salary range $130K - $160K

Location: Hanover, MD 21076 100% Onsite

Schedule: Monday – Friday | 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Clearance: US Citizenship Required (Active Secret or TS/SCI with CI Poly preferred)

About the Role

Are you a senior Stress Analyst who thrives on complex engineering challenges? We are looking for an experienced Structural Engineer / Stress Analyst to drive structural integrity for high-stakes subsea vehicles, deep-sea hardware, and advanced defense technology.

In this role, you will work closely with design teams from initial concept through structural testing—influencing load paths and performing critical linear/non-linear finite element analysis (FEA) and classical hand calculations on ROVs, pressure vessels, and specialized over-boarding equipment.

Key Responsibilities

• Advanced Analysis: Perform linear/non-linear stress analysis, transient shock, vibration, fatigue, fracture, DDAM, and bolt/weld analysis using ANSYS.
• Hand Calculations: Validate complex FEA with classical analytical methods (Bruhn, Roark, Shigley).
• Early-Stage Sizing: Convert complex physical systems into simplified FEA models and guide initial conceptual design sizing.
• Load Case Development: Define load cases, quantify primary/secondary structural loads, and establish structural test parameters.
• Design & Review: Collaborate directly with Design Engineers throughout the project lifecycle and participate in rigorous design reviews.
• Documentation: Produce clear, comprehensive technical reports to properly document analysis results.

Qualifications & Skills

• Experience: 15+ years of dedicated structural/stress analysis experience on complex mechanical or aerospace systems.
• Software Expertise: Deep proficiency in ANSYS is required (must be able to hit the ground running with no ramp-up/training needed).
• 3D CAD: Basic proficiency with 3D CAD platforms (SolidWorks preferred).
• Analytical Foundation: Mastery of classical hand calculation techniques and standard industry FEA methodologies.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution preferred (relevant experience will be considered in lieu of a degree).
• Security Requirements:
• MUST be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain a Security Clearance.
• Active Secret, TS/SCI, or TS/SCI with CI Polygraph strongly preferred.
