PRN Athletic Trainer / Substitute

The PRN Athletic Trainer will provide supplemental athletic training services to Odessa High School athletics under the direction of the Head Athletic Trainer and/or Athletic Director. This position is intended to provide additional athletic training coverage when the Head Athletic Trainer is absent or unavailable, as well as supplemental coverage during periods of increased athletic activity or staffing needs.

The PRN Athletic Trainer may provide coverage for athletic practices, competitions, tournaments, postseason events, and other school-sponsored athletic activities as assigned.

Essential duties and responsibilities include:

• Providing athletic training coverage for athletic practices, competitions, tournaments, and other school-sponsored athletic events as assigned.
• Providing game and event coverage when the Head Athletic Trainer is absent or otherwise unavailable.
• Providing additional athletic training coverage during periods of increased demand, including overlapping practices or competitions, tournaments, postseason events, and other situations in which supplemental staffing is needed.
• Assisting with the evaluation and management of athletic injuries and illnesses.
• Assisting with injury prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, and return-to-play procedures within the scope of athletic training practice.
• Assisting with emergency care and implementation of venue-specific Emergency Action Plans when needed.
• Communicating appropriately with athletes, coaches, parents/guardians, physicians, and school personnel regarding athletic injuries and participation status.
• Assisting the Head Athletic Trainer with athletic training duties and responsibilities as requested.
• Maintaining appropriate documentation related to athletic injuries, treatments, rehabilitation, and participation status.
• Following Odessa R-VII School District policies, MSHSAA regulations, and applicable athletic training standards and procedures.
• Performing other duties related to athletic training and student-athlete health and safety as assigned.

Qualifications include:

• Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred in Athletic Training.
• Completion of an accredited Athletic Training Education Program (ATEP).
• Board of Certification (BOC) Certified Athletic Trainer required.
• Must be in good standing with the Board of Certification (BOC) and/or National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA), as applicable.
• Missouri Athletic Trainer Licensure (LAT) required.
• Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification required.

This is a PRN/as-needed position. Hours and assignments will vary based on the athletic calendar and the needs of the athletic department. There is no guaranteed minimum number of hours.

Assignments may include:

• Home athletic competitions
• Away athletic competitions, as needed
• Practices, as needed
• Tournaments
• Postseason competitions
• Events requiring additional athletic training coverage
• Coverage during the absence or unavailability of the Head Athletic Trainer

The PRN Athletic Trainer serves as a supplemental resource to support the athletic training needs of Odessa High School. The position is intended to provide flexibility in athletic training coverage and help ensure appropriate medical coverage for student-athletes when the primary athletic trainer is unavailable or when the volume of athletic activities requires.
