Registered Nurse (RN) - House Supervisor

Shift Notes

This position entails working night shifts from 6 PM to 6 AM, following a schedule of two days on, two days off, and three days on, totaling 84 hours in a biweekly pay period. The role includes rotating weekend responsibilities.

Job Description

The House Supervisor oversees nursing services, ensuring that nursing care complies with best practices and applicable state and federal regulations. Responsibilities include supervising daily nursing activities conducted by nursing assistants and LPNs.

Basic Knowledge and Performance Requirements

• Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in Pennsylvania.
• Knowledge of medical asepsis, body mechanics, personal care of residents, equipment use, and nursing theory application.
• Willingness to comply with regulations, policies, and procedures of the institution.
• Ability to maintain a professional demeanor towards residents, visitors, and co-workers.
• Awareness of cost containment and resource utilization.
• Ability to accept and follow both written and verbal directives.
• Strong communication and observation skills.
• Capability to exercise independent judgment and effectively manage emergency situations.

General Duties

• Administer and record medications and treatments, monitoring resident responses.
• Accurately transcribe physician's orders and complete monthly summaries.
• Notify the RN Supervisor of significant changes in resident conditions.
• Communicate resident transfers to family members and relevant department heads.
• Assist physicians with rounds, examinations, and treatments as necessary.
• Collect laboratory specimens and ensure proper documentation.
• Supervise post-mortem procedures and notify department heads of resident deaths.
• Encourage resident participation in activities and report on resident conditions and care plan changes.
• Assist with the orientation of new staff and conduct team conferences as needed.
• Monitor staff compliance with infection control and documentation practices.
• Provide direct resident care when necessary and maintain a clean, safe environment.
• Maintain accurate inventories and fulfill housekeeping responsibilities.

Dress Code

• Uniforms: Any colored scrubs.
• Shoes: Clean and in good repair; no open-toe sandals.
• Hair: Must be clean and neatly styled.
• Jewelry: Limited to non-dangling items.
• No heavy fragrances.
• Name tags: Must be worn daily.

Physical Demands

• Must be in good physical health and mental alertness to perform job functions effectively.
• Ability to pass necessary employment physical examinations.
• Understanding of good body mechanics principles.

Qualifications

• Nursing home experience is a plus.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
• COVID-19 vaccination is required.
• Must possess a current PA nursing license or a temporary work permit at the time of the interview.
