Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant - Pediatric Intensive Care Unit

Overview Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is an integral member of the multidisciplinary healthcare team in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). The APP delivers expert care for high‑acuity ICU patients, managing unstable conditions that require intensive oversight, frequent rounding, and specialized interventions. Department The PICU is a 42‑bed unit dedicated to critically ill children, staffed by board‑certified pediatric critical care physicians alongside nurse practitioners, nurses, respiratory therapists, social workers, case managers, child life specialists, pharmacologists, and nutritionists. Position Hours Full‑time; nights; 12‑hour shifts (1700‑0500 and 1800‑0500). Mix of shift times. Responsibilities Obtains and documents a health history; performs complete, system‑focused physical examination, assessment, and plan of care. Provides healthcare services for primary, acute, and complex care, managing overall patient care and identifying expected outcomes for diagnoses. Orders, performs, interprets, and collects data using appropriate assessment techniques, diagnostic information, and procedures as indicated. Forms differential diagnoses and treats acute and chronic conditions, prescribing therapeutic interventions—pharmacologic, non‑pharmacologic, or surgical—to achieve expected outcomes. Utilizes evidence‑based practice protocols to plan and implement care. Initiates appropriate referrals and consultations. Provides specialty‑specific consultation services within scope of practice. Facilitates patient transitions between healthcare settings, including admission, transfer, and discharge. Qualifications Certification: Licensed Nurse Practitioner (TN) or Physician Assistant (TN) certified; or Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner – Acute Care (CPNP‑AC) or PA. Licensure: Registered Nurse (TN) or equivalent. Education: Master’s degree in Nursing or Physician Assistant studies. Experience: Less than 1 year of relevant clinical experience in critical care or similar setting. Skills: Advanced medical knowledge, clinical judgment, technical proficiency, professionalism, and strong interpersonal communication.
