Orthopedic Physician Assistant

Key Position Details:

• 1.0 FTE Orthopedic Physician Assistant for United and East region 100%, St. Paul and Apple Valley clinic locations
• 2-3 clinic days a week, 1-2 OR days a week
• 5x8 hour day shifts
• You will be in the call rotation – 3-4 weekends a year
• Float among 3 MD teams
• Weekend rotations - on call
• Clinic schedule: 8am-4:30pm
• Surgery schedule: Normally 7am start time; mid-afternoon end time depending on case load.

Job Description:

Provides help with all aspects of patient care, including diagnosis, treatments, and consultations as part of a Physician/Physician Assistant team. Works in both inpatient and outpatient situations and can perform independently or as part of a treatment team. Serves as an educator, case manager, consultant to staff and multidisciplinary health care team.

Principle Responsibilities

• Provides clinical care for patients
  • Completes comprehensive patient assessments.
  • Determines diagnosis and treatment of illness.
  • Orders and interprets medical diagnostics in tandem with attending physician.
  • Prescribes medications, treatments, therapy and medical equipment.
  • Conducts patient education when working to manage chronic illness or wellness care.
  • Refers for specialty care when determined.
  • Consults with physician when patient needs outside of Physician Assistant scope of practice, diagnosis or treatment plan is unclear

Required Qualifications

• Master's degree - Completion of accredited Physician Assistant program

Preferred Qualifications

• New Graduates may be considered. Minimum 2 years' experience in Orthopedics preferred

Licenses/Certifications

• Licensed Physician Assistant - MN Board of Medical Practice required upon hire
• BLS Tier 1 - Multisource required within 180 Days
• Certification as Physician Assistant - NCCPA (National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants) required upon hire
• Drug Enforcement Administration required upon hire

Physical Demands

• Medium Work*: Lifting weight up to 32 lbs. occasionally (*Allina Safe Patient Moving Policy), up to 25 lbs. frequently

Pay Range: $126,006 to $144,206 per yearThe pay described reflects the starting base pay range, assuming a full-time FTE. Your starting rate will depend on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, your experience, education, and the union agreement (if applicable).
