Position: Social Worker School Year: 2026-2027 Location: Roaring Fork School District Reports to: Special Education Director Classification: Certified Exempt - Full-Time (1.0 FTE / 40 hours per week) Contract Period: 185 working days Salary Range $56,809 - $87,909 (Based on education and years of relevant teaching experience); the annual salary listed above is based on a full‑time, 8‑hour workday (FTE 1) and a full working calendar. For positions with less than a full FTE or reduced hours, such as part‑time or late‑start positions, the salary will be prorated accordingly. Certified Salary Schedule. Credentialed teaching experience outside the District or U.S. may be considered in salary placement. See our Salary Placement Criteria for more information. Position Overview The special education School Social Worker provides therapy services to students age birth‑21 in a variety of schools to promote student success and assist the District in its mission to ensure that every student develops the enduring knowledge, skills and character to thrive in a changing world. Key Responsibilities Assists the special education department and school psychologists in screenings as appropriate and observations to identify students with therapy needs. Responds to student mental health crisis and needs by offering education, prevention and crisis/short‑term counseling and makes referrals to community resources as needed. Meets all legal requirements, including timelines for professional practices in accordance with educational law and district policies and procedures. Items may include, but not limited to, 504, RtI, MTSS, concurrent enrollment and/or graduation plans/requirements. Develops and implements IEPs and participates in student/parent meetings. Ensures that building staff are aware of and trained in mandatory reporting requirements; works closely with social services involving student and family investigations; may testify in court regarding school‑related data. Provides group and individual therapy and services. Adapts services based on the academic, personal/social and career needs of students. Has knowledge of community/local services to assist students; uses knowledge of students' homes, community and school to implement, evaluate and adapt services. Participates as a related provider for students with therapy services on the IEP. Utilizes materials and develops programming and services that honor diversity within the home, school and local and global communities based on culture, diverse demographics and socio‑economic status. Coordinates communication and information to and from families, school staff and leadership, other special education team members, including Family Resource Center. Plans and delivers services based on the synthesis of multiple sources of data related to student abilities, interests, skills and achievement. Other duties as assigned. Ideal Candidate Qualities Knowledge Of Continuum of mental health services, including prevention and intervention strategies. Special education rules and regulations. Standardized and non‑standardized assessments. Students with disabilities. Knowledge of using data to promote student achievement. Positive discipline and classroom management techniques. Knowledge of deescalation and physical restraint techniques. School, district and community resources. Pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulation. English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation. Modern office procedures and methods. Principles of business and letter writing and basic report preparation. Ability To Advocate for therapy programs to all stakeholder groups. Establish professional relationships within the school and the school community to enhance student achievement. Work with diverse populations and cultures. Respond to crisis across the district. Make presentations as required. Operate and use modern office equipment including a computer and various software packages. Communicate effectively in written and oral form. Collaborate with and make recommendations to students, parents and school personnel. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Education and Licensing Guidelines Master's degree from an accredited college. Possession of or enrollment in a program to obtain a Special Service Provider license through CDE. Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Colorado Driver's License. A minimum of one year experience in the counseling or mental health field is preferred. Working Conditions Requires driving from site to site. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works inside. The noise level is usually moderate. The employee is frequently required to sit, walk and stand. Occasional lifting of 50 pounds or less. Lifts of 50 pounds or more will be a two‑person lift. May be required to lift, move or have the ability to position students as needed to provide services. Primary functions may require maintaining physical conditions necessary for traveling, sitting (including sitting on the floor), getting up and down from the floor, and standing for prolonged periods of time; use of a computer keyboard; light lifting; and carrying.
