WHAT YOU WILL DO

• The core purpose of the emerging issue investigations DRC engineer is to identify and report safety, compliance and regulatory concerns on Hyundai and Genesis models. This is accomplished by conducting a thorough and timely safety case investigation, preparing material, and then presenting the issue for committee review.

HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT

• Conduct thorough and timely data-driven safety case investigations:
  • Thorough examination of data from all available sources including consumer complaint data, field reports, legal cases, supplier information, dealer reports, plant information, other safety recalls, compliance and consumer metric testing, NHTSA VOQ data, and outliers in warranty data.
  • Determine preliminary severity, occurrence, and detectability scores using established metrics.
• Draft case presentations for management review that clearly define the issue(s).
• Actively track and manage assigned cases to ensure KPIs are within requirements (including handle time, response time and reporting deadlines).
• Provide immediate notification to upper management of potential catastrophic defects requiring stop sale or immediate field action.
• Identify possible safety-related defects and/or FMVSS non-compliances associated with Hyundai production vehicles.
• Proactively monitor reports and cases from various sources to identify potential safety issues.
• Provide support and manage various aspects of the Case Management Tool (CMT) including updates, changes to the various database systems, and ensuring all vehicle safety related issues are promptly/accurately tracked and reported.
• Actively support all aspects of the Safety Data Analytics Infrastructure (SDAI) development:
  • End user model (themes) feedback from “real world” data analysis (cases).
  • SODAS (Safety Office Data Analytics System) UAT testing.
  • Support our Digital Business Planning Team and various IT groups.
• Work closely with Safety Data Analytics team as needed to assist in emerging issue detection and analysis.
• This position requires attaining and maintaining a high level of technical knowledge about Hyundai vehicles and automotive components to assist in identifying potential vehicle safety conditions. This position will have access to Hyundai expertise needed to complete investigations and a direct line to upper management to inform critical issues identified.
• Liaise with Hyundai design, manufacturing, and supplier affiliates.
• This role performs work directly related to management or general business operations of the company.
• The role requires the regular exercise of discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of significance.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE ROLE

• Must have a bachelor’s degree in engineering.
• Five or more years of relevant work experience.
• Experience in conducting timely investigations into equipment failure modes.
• Experience in gathering and analyzing statistical data.
• One or more years of experience in the automotive business in areas including vehicle safety, design, testing, field reliability evaluation, and/or service quality is preferred.
• Automotive assembly plant or component manufacturing experience is a plus
• Excellent project and program management skills.
• Ability to proactively collaborate with peers, vehicle component experts and leadership within the organization and creatively problem-solve as needed to complete investigations.
• Ability to concurrently manage several investigations in a timely manner.
• Ability to identify and utilize the corporation expertise related to the issue under investigation.
• A deep understanding of automotive technical knowledge is strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of specific vehicle systems or performance areas such as powertrain, chassis, electrical, crashworthiness, etc.
• Ability to read and comprehend federal regulations related to automotive safety.
• Ability to accurately analyze high-volume technical data.
• Ability to present investigation findings to all pertinent levels of the corporation.
• Aptitude to work cohesively and communicate clearly with members of various HMA and HMC legal, quality, engineering, testing, and service departments.

WHAT HYUNDAI CAN OFFER YOU

• Compensation Range: $75,400 - $104,000 annual base salary
• Monthly Hyundai/Genesis vehicle lease allowance (including insurance and maintenance)
• Holiday Pay - the company shuts down with pay between Christmas and New Years.

• Physical requirements: Normal office duties.
• Must be able to travel to support periodic industry action meetings pertaining to safety-defect data analysis best practices.
• Must be able to travel to support ongoing field investigations related to defects assessment concerns.
