Sr. Accounts Receivable Specialist

Cashiering Position

Under the direction of a team lead, this position is responsible for processing cashiering transactions, reconciling daily financial activity, and providing excellent customer service and operational support to students, parents, and departmental partners throughout the university.

Salary Grade: 12

Account Services serves as MSU's go-to resource for understanding costs, managing bills, making payments, and receiving refunds — all with professional, courteous support and a commitment to keeping things simple and transparent.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Assist customers in-person and on the phone with account concerns and payment related questions while adhering to FERPA regulations.

2. Process payments in the cashiering system and assist students and parents in interpreting their account balance.

3. Process cash receipt vouchers to record cash, check, and wire payments to various general ledger accounts.

4. Record departmental deposit bank receipts to the appropriate general ledger account.

5. Balance daily work and perform end-of-day reconciliation.

6. Maintain payroll paper check log and distribute payroll checks upon confirmation of direct deposit enrollment through Treasury Service.

7. Assist in the implementation of new operational procedures.

8. Assists in the research and resolution of problems or questions related to departmental transactions as needed.

9. Verifies that cashiering operations documents are imaged properly and that the retention of the operation's electronic or physical documents and data are held to departmental guidelines.

10. Maintains compliance with departmental security procedures, audit procedures and University business policies and procedures.

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position may supervise other non-exempt positions.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education High school diploma

Experience (yrs.) 3-5 years plus the education listed above

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Well-developed interpersonal, teamwork, verbal and written communication skills

• Demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity

• Demonstrated ability to manage/coordinate multiple tasks

• Independent self-starter with strong work ethic

• Strong customer service skills

Working Conditions and Physical Effort:

• No unusual physical requirements. Requires limited lifting of files and records and nearly all work is performed in a comfortable indoor facility.

• Frequent- External imposed deadlines; set and revised beyond one's control; interruptions influence priorities; difficult to anticipate nature or volume of work with certainty beyond a few days; meeting of deadlines and coordination of unrelated activities are key to position; involves conflict-resolution or similar interactions involving emotional issues or stress on a regular basis.

• Job frequently requires walking, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands.
