The organization is seeking a Pediatric Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN) for a position at a pediatric emergency department located in Norfolk, Virginia. The role involves providing specialized nursing care for pediatric patients, including managing various medical conditions and performing advanced procedures. The position requires a highly skilled nurse capable of working in a fast-paced emergency environment with a focus on pediatric patient care.

  • Required Qualifications: One year of documented pediatric emergency room experience; Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) with compact license acceptable; Certifications including Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Basic Life Support (BLS), and Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) Blue Card; High school diploma or higher education required.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Triage experience, moderate sedation capability, and experience with advanced airway management such as RSI (Rapid Sequence Intubation).

  • Additional Information: Parking is available with a parking pass required. The dress code is scrubs. The role involves rotating holidays and working on weekends.
  • Responsibilities include: Managing pediatric respiratory treatments, procedures such as chest tube care, CPAP/BiPAP, ventilator management, sedations, blood products administration, cardioversion, cooling/warming blankets, CVP monitoring, EKG interpretation, and rapid transfusions. Familiarity with lines such as drains, PICC lines, port-a-Caths, and PCA pumps is required. The department manages a range of conditions including asthma, DKA, neonatal fever, and sickle cell crises, with procedures like moderate sedations, airway management, and ventilator support.
