Veterinary Technician I

The Office of Animal Resources at the University of Iowa is seeking a Veterinary Technician. Under general supervision, the technician provides veterinary care for animals used in research, offers animal husbandry support, and assists veterinarians and investigative staff in treating animals used in teaching, training, or research functions. The position operates within standard guidelines, and any deviation requires prior approval. Staff will work a rotating on‑call schedule and holidays. Work Schedule Sunday–Thursday, 8:00 am–4:30 pm (with some overtime required) Work Modality On campus (full‑time, regulated environment) Pay and Compensation Pay Level: 10 Responsibilities Provide veterinary care, including routine health checks, clinical procedures, and emergency interventions. Perform animal husbandry tasks such as feeding, cleaning, and monitoring animal welfare. Assist veterinarians and staff with the treatment of animals used in teaching, training, or research activities. Adhere to all standard guidelines, alternative procedures, and regulatory requirements. Respond to on‑call requests and participate in rotating schedules. Qualifications Associate or Bachelor’s degree in an American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) or Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) accredited veterinary technology program. Registered, licensed, or certified as a veterinary technician within one year of the start date. Special Qualifications (if appropriate) Valid state or commercial driver’s license with the ability to meet University Fleet Safety Standards.
