About the Role

VMA-MSI is expanding its network of contract instructors and seeking experienced OSHA-Authorized Outreach Trainers to deliver OSHA 10-Hour and OSHA 30-Hour training for manufacturers and other employers.

This is a flexible instructional opportunity suited to safety professionals, consultants, and experienced trainers seeking supplemental income. MSI offers assignments as clients request training, and contractors may accept opportunities that fit their schedules. Instruction is generally delivered in person at employer facilities or other designated training locations.

In addition to OSHA courses, qualified contractors may be invited to teach other MSI industrial safety, manufacturing, or workforce development programs. Additional instructional opportunities depend on the individual’s expertise, program requirements, and client needs.

Key Responsibilities

OSHA Training Delivery

· Deliver OSHA 10-Hour and OSHA 30-Hour General Industry Outreach courses in accordance with current OSHA program requirements.

· Teach working adults using clear explanations, industry examples, practical activities, and engaging instruction.

· Follow applicable OSHA requirements for course content, contact hours, instructional delivery, and participant eligibility.

Course Administration and Coordination

· Coordinate accepted assignments with MSI staff, including course dates, locations, participant needs, and materials.

· Maintain required attendance, course, and participant records; submit reports through the applicable Authorizing Training Organization.

· Obtain and issue official OSHA student course completion cards to eligible participants within OSHA-required deadlines.

· Maintain current Outreach Trainer authorization throughout assigned instruction.

Required Qualifications

· Current OSHA General Industry Outreach Trainer authorization, initially earned through OSHA Course #501 and maintained through OSHA Course #503 (or current authorization otherwise valid under OSHA requirements).

· Current OSHA Authorized Outreach Trainer card for General Industry, including the trainer’s name, expiration date, and Authorizing Training Organization.

· Authorization to teach OSHA 10-Hour and OSHA 30-Hour General Industry Outreach courses and obtain official student course completion cards.

· Practical occupational safety and health experience in manufacturing, industrial operations, or a related workplace setting.

· Experience instructing adult learners or delivering employer-based safety training.

· Ability to travel to assigned training locations and independently deliver accepted assignments.

Preferred Qualifications

· Current OSHA Construction Outreach Trainer authorization, earned through OSHA #500 and maintained through OSHA #502 as applicable.

· CSP, ASP, CIH, or other relevant professional safety credentials.

· Experience with manufacturing operations and topics such as machine guarding, lockout/tagout, electrical safety, and hazard recognition.

· Experience teaching for employers, community colleges, workforce organizations, or professional training providers.

· Qualifications and interest in teaching additional MSI programs.

Flexible Contract Assignments

Training assignments are offered based on client demand and instructor availability. Contractors may accept or decline assignments; no minimum hours or classes are guaranteed. Compensation is $70 per scheduled instructional hour (10 hours for OSHA 10; 30 hours for OSHA 30), paid on a 1099 independent contractor basis. The rate includes course preparation, required reporting, and completion-card administration. Approved mileage is reimbursed separately at the applicable federal rate.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

Instruction may take place in classrooms, employer training facilities, and active industrial environments. Assignments may involve standing for extended periods, carrying instructional materials, and following site-specific safety and personal protective equipment requirements.
