Clinical Nurse II – Duke University Hospital – Day Shift Duke University Health System seeks to hire an experienced Registered Nurse who will embrace our mission of Advancing Health Together. Department Profile The Children’s Health Center and Lenox Baker Children’s Hospital at Duke University Hospital are comprised of pediatric outpatient clinics. The Metabolic and Genetics Team at Duke Children’s serves patients with various genetic disorders. This position, a Genetics Nurse Navigator, will provide triage support and care coordination for this patient population and work closely with the faculty directors of Pediatric Metabolic and Genetics. Key Responsibilities Serve as RN Care Coordinator, attending clinic as needed, and provide clinic coordination. Provide patient care coordination in an office setting on non‑clinic days. Perform triage calls, resolve problems within scope, gather relevant information, and coordinate follow‑up with providers to develop and convey care plans. Document communication in Maestro Care and manage in‑basket messages. Coordinate infusion management, medication refills, lab studies, appointment scheduling, and other services for patients with genetic disorders. Assist patients and families through home care coordination and clinic appointments. Coordinate new patient appointments, ensuring necessary medical records, neuroimaging, and labs are obtained from outside facilities. Coordinate diagnostic testing and outpatient appointments at Duke or outside institutions. Required Qualifications A solid background in Pediatric Nursing. Experience with telephone triage or managed care coordination. Strong oral and written communication skills; proficiency in software navigation (EPIC preferred). Good organizational skills. Flexible attitude; ability to function both independently and as a team member. Ability to communicate clearly with patients, families, visitors, healthcare team, physicians, administrators, leadership, and others. Work Hours & Shifts Full Time: Monday–Friday, typically 8 am to 5 pm. Hours may vary. Education BSN required. Experience Three (3) years of nursing experience required. Licensure Current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina required. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of the scope of a registered nurse and appropriate application of the nursing process. Ability to independently seek out resources and work collaboratively. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to communicate clearly with patients, families, visitors, healthcare team, physicians, administrators, leadership, and others. Ability to teach patients and families in accordance with the nursing plan of care.
