Jerritt Canyon
Job Description
Job Description
About Jerritt Canyon
The Jerritt Canyon deposit was discovered in 1972, and the first gold production from the property occurred in 1981. The Jerritt Canyon property contains 30,821 hectares of mining claims located in the mining-friendly state of Nevada. First Majestic acquired the Jerritt Canyon Gold Mine from Sprott Mining Inc. on April 30, 2021. In May 2023, operations were suspended to prioritize exploration and technical studies. Jerritt Canyon is now entering a new phase of evaluation and planning, requiring substantial technical support to advance the work necessary for a potential future restart of operations.
The Opportunity
The HR Business Partner is a strategic site-based HR partner who supports leaders and employees across a fast-paced mining environment. This role works closely with operational departments to strengthen employee relations, support workforce planning, guide people-related decisions, and help build the HR practices needed for a successful ramp-up. The ideal candidate is proactive, solutions-oriented, and comfortable working through ambiguity, operational challenges, and changing priorities while bringing innovative thinking, sound judgment, and a strong understanding of industrial workforce dynamics.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a trusted HR business partner to site leaders and employees, providing practical guidance that supports business priorities, workforce stability, and a positive employee experience.
- Lead and support employee relations matters, including coaching leaders, conducting fact-finding, supporting investigations, preparing documentation, and recommending balanced, consistent solutions.
- Partner with operational leaders to anticipate workforce needs, identify people-related risks, and develop proactive HR strategies that support ramp-up, retention, engagement, and operational readiness.
- Bring innovative thinking to HR programs, processes, and employee engagement efforts, helping improve how the site attracts, supports, develops, and retains employees in a competitive mining market.
- Support leaders through performance management, employee development, corrective action, and workplace accountability processes with consistency, discretion, and sound judgment.
- Build strong relationships with supervisors, superintendents, and department leaders to understand operational challenges and provide HR support that is timely, credible, and aligned with site goals.
- Support organizational initiatives, including policy implementation, change management, communication planning, workforce engagement, and leadership alignment.
- Partner with Talent Acquisition and department leaders to support hiring strategies for industrial and technical roles, ensuring recruitment efforts align with workforce priorities and site needs.
- Contribute to onboarding and leader support practices that help employees integrate effectively into the site and understand expectations, safety culture, and Company values.
- Monitor HR trends, employee concerns, and workforce data to identify opportunities for improvement and provide thoughtful recommendations to HR and site leadership.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and exercise sound judgment and discretion in all aspects of the role.
- Demonstrate alignment with First Majestic's values and organizational behaviors in all interactions, decisions, and work activities.
- Comply with all Company policies and procedures, including safety, environmental, and code of conduct requirements.
- Perform work safely and complete other related duties as assigned.
- The above duties and responsibilities are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all-inclusive.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred. Equivalent experience may be considered.
- 3–5 years of progressive Human Resources experience, with demonstrated experience partnering with leaders on employee relations, workforce planning, performance management, and organizational initiatives.
- 1–2 years of HR experience in mining, heavy industrial, manufacturing, construction, or a similar operational environment strongly preferred, with direct support of field-based or industrial departments.
- Strong working knowledge of employee relations practices, employment laws, HR best practices, and consistent policy application in an operational setting.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment, navigate ambiguity, overcome challenges, and provide practical HR solutions that support business needs.
- Experience supporting supervisors, superintendents, and department leaders across operational groups, with the ability to build credibility and influence without relying on transactional HR support.
- Strong communication, coaching, problem-solving, organizational, and relationship building skills, with the ability to balance employee advocacy and business objectives.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
The salary range is tied to the market for jobs performed in Nevada. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience.
