Speech-Language Pathologist

The speech-language pathologist provides intervention to students for speech, language, social communication, and cognitive-communication disorders. The speech language pathologist assesses students, develops an IEP for goals and objectives, and ensures evaluations, treatment plans, and services are aligned with school, state, and federal guidelines.

Specific job responsibilities include:

• Providing screening to identify speech/language barriers of eligible children, as referred.
• Providing hearing screenings for Pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, and first graders, as mandated by the State Department of Education.
• Providing speech/language assessments and hearing screenings for children referred as possibly having speech/language and/or hearing impairments.
• Providing speech/language assessments and hearing screenings for students referred for comprehensive assessment.
• Providing screening and assessments for Child Find.
• Completing all reports, records, and assignments accurately and punctually.
• Assisting in referring children to agencies and specialists in the community when appropriate.
• Implementing a therapy program for students eligible for speech/language therapy.
• Providing speech/language and related information and support to parents and families of students with speech/language disabilities.
• Conducting IEP reviews at least annually for each speech child on his/her roster.
• Providing in-service education and consulting with teachers and staff on speech and language disabilities.
• Monitoring progress of students' IEP goals biweekly.
• Attending and/or conducting MET, eligibility, TST, and IEP meetings.
• Complying with MDE timelines for reporting.
• Reporting regularly and punctually to assigned work location(s) and notifying supervisor or designee of impending absence in a timely manner and all assigned duties.

Minimum qualifications include:

• Certification in: Speech/ Language Clinician (215); Speech Associates (216)

Physical demands and working environment include:

Environment: Standard office and school settings to include classrooms, gyms, libraries, cafeterias, and recreational areas; moderate travel; exposure to potentially stressful environments; regularly perform inside and/or outside with potential for exposure to adverse environmental conditions.

Physical: Sufficient physical ability to perform moderate lifting up to 20 pounds; regularly required to walk, sit or stand for prolonged periods of time; may require climbing, stooping, kneeling, or crouching.

Vision: See in the normal visual range with or without correction; vision sufficient to read computer screens and printed documents.

Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction; the noise level in the work environment is moderate.
