This is especially true for the Nuclear Safety Analysis (NSA) team which leads Dominion Energy success in performing full-scope in-house safety analyses in support of safe operation of its pressurized water reactors (PWRs). NSA is actively seeking to hire a new "Engineer". The single opening will be filled as an Associate Engineer, Engineer, Senior Engineer or Staff Engineer commensurate with the selected candidate's education, knowledge and work experience. Dominion Energy's Nuclear Analysis and Fuel and Regulatory Assurance department has long-term engineering needs in Nuclear Safety Analysis (NSA) to promote continued reliable and cost-effective power production through the year 2060. NSA's scope includes a range of safety analysis to include reactor system transient analyses, containment response analyses, vendor Loss of Coolant Accident (LOCA) analyses, fuel reload analyses, radiological consequences analyses, emergency procedure setpoints, evaluations of as-found plant conditions, emergency response organization support, and 10 CFR 50.59 screens and evaluations for changes to the plant, safety analyses, and station procedures.Specific Job Responsibilities Include:Modify safety analyses in support of plant design changes or fuel changesEstablish and communicate bounding conditions of safe operation (safety analyses) for the reactor core, reactor coolant system, balance of plant, containment systems, engineered safeguards, and safety-related auxiliary equipment of the Dominion Energy nuclear unitsEvaluate unanticipated as-found plant conditions (with system thermal-hydraulic or radiological consequence models and codes), provide input for operability determinations, and provide recommendations for restoration of equipment to the design conditionsPrepare 10 CFR 50.59 screens and evaluations to support changes to the plant, procedures, and safety analysesParticipate in ongoing training and continuous improvement activities to maintain and enhance our role in supporting safe and efficient plant operationsSupport activities associated with the deployment of future SMR technologies, including safety analysis development, licensing basis establishment, and integration with design and regulatory frameworksRequired Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & ExperienceTo be qualified for the Nuclear Fuel & Analysis Engineer, one must meet the following minimum requirements:Four-year engineering degree from an ABET-accredited program and:Associate Engineer: 0-2 years of related engineering experienceEngineer: 2+ years of related engineering experienceSenior Engineer: 5+ years of related engineering experienceStaff Engineer: 8+ years of related engineering experienceFurther, qualified candidates must demonstrate:Knowledge of fundamental nuclear, mechanical, and electrical theory and engineering principlesKnowledge of fundamental theory, design, systems, structures, components, and operation of pressurized water reactorsAbility to define problems, collect information, evaluate data, draw valid conclusions, and develop solutions in a time-critical environmentProfessional orientation with the ability to lead, communicate effectively in both written and oral forms, and work effectively in teams and independently under own initiativeAbility to effectively operate a personal computer and workstation computer, including standard Microsoft applications and LinuxEffective written, verbal, and presentation communication skillsAbility to work effectively in a team environmentEffective project management skillsA track record of personal ownership and accountabilityIn unmanned systems, Engineers must have ability to hoist, lift, and maneuver equipment using proper safety techniques. Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, and maintain awkward or restricted positions as tasks require. Ability to remain standing for prolonged periods and perform work while on their feet throughout the shift. Ability to enter, work within, and exit confined spaces in accordance with safety procedures and applicable regulations.Preferred Candidates will also possess:Four year degree in Nuclear EngineeringAdvanced thermal-hydraulic modeling and analysis skills & experienceKnowledge and experience with nuclear application codes, especially those used to perform detailed reactor core analysis, reactor coolant system transient analysis, and PWR containment systems analysis (e.g., RETRAN, RELAP, GOTHIC, VIPRE)Knowledge and experience with radiological consequences analyses and codes (e.g., RADTRAD, ORIGEN)Knowledge of nuclear regulations and regulatory processes and specific experience with 10 CFR 50.59 screens and evaluations and use of industry guidance documentsFamiliarity with NSSS vendor analytical methods and safety analysis processes preferredExperience with nuclear plant design basis accident scenarios, including the intersection of plant systems response, operator actions, simulator validation, Emergency Operating Procedures, Severe Accident Management Guidelines, and FLEX Support GuidelinesFamiliarity with Nuclear Emergency Response Organization support preferredOnsite Nuclear Power Plant experience is desirableComputer programming skillsEducation RequirementsRequired Degree (equivalency not accepted in lieu of required degree): Bachelor's in EngineeringPreferred Candidates will possess Bachelor's degree in Nuclear EngineeringREQUIRED ENGINEERING CRITERIA: For placement of a candidate in the Engineer job series, the following criteria must be met:Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an ABET accredited Engineering program based on the year that the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, orPossess a 4-year Engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own Engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, orPossess a 4-year degree in Engineering (non-ABET accredited), Physics, Chemistry, Math or Engineering Technology and a post-graduate Engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same Engineering discipline is ABET-accredited based on the year the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, orHolds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license.Note: Dominion Energy minimum experience and education requirements may exceed stated ANSI standards and candidates must meet the Dominion Energy minimum requirements. For Nuclear employees, this ANSI standard must be met, all of which is met or exceeded in the Engineer series job summaries with the exception of the Nuclear Power experience requirement of at least 1 year: ANSI/ANS-3.1-2014, Section 4.6.1 Education requirements: Baccalaureate or associate degree in engineering or related science.
