Are you a Robotics Engineer who enjoys taking complex robotic applications from concept and simulation through programming, testing and commissioning?

Boston Conveyor and Automation (BCA), part of Mpac Group , is looking for a talented Robotics Engineer to join our growing engineering team in Newburyport, MA.

As a FANUC Authorized System Integrator , we develop sophisticated custom automation solutions for sanitary applications within the food manufacturing and life sciences industries . You'll work alongside Mechanical, Electrical and Controls Engineers to develop fully integrated robotic automation systems that solve real-world manufacturing challenges.

This is an opportunity to take genuine ownership of robotic applications, from initial proof of concept through to programming and commissioning at the customer's facility.

What You'll Be Doing

As a Robotics Engineer, you'll work across the complete lifecycle of custom automation projects.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Designing, programming, simulating and testing complex robotic automation systems
• Developing robotic applications from concept through to final commissioning
• Conducting R&D and proof-of-concept testing for robotic processes and end-of-arm tooling
• Developing Bills of Materials and robot configurations for individual applications
• Programming, testing, debugging and commissioning robotic systems
• Performing system start-ups, configuration, calibration and functional testing
• Testing and validating systems to ensure reliable machine operation
• Troubleshooting robotic, controls, electrical and software issues
• Leading design reviews and identifying technical risks
• Taking engineering ownership of projects, including scope, schedules and budget requirements
• Supporting installation, commissioning, servicing and upgrades at customer sites
• Working directly with customers to understand requirements and achieve project objectives
• Collaborating with Mechanical, Electrical, Controls, Project Management, Applications and Sales teams
• Producing and maintaining technical documentation and operating instructions
• Supporting and mentoring less experienced engineers
• Staying current with developments in robotics and automation technologies and sharing best practices across the team.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for an engineer with a strong hands-on understanding of industrial robotics and automated machinery .

Ideally, you'll have:

• A Bachelor's degree in Automation, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Computer Science , or equivalent experience
• 5+ years' experience working with automated systems within manufacturing or another relevant technical environment
• Practical experience with robot programming and simulation
• Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills across automated and robotic systems
• Experience programming machine vision systems , such as Cognex, FANUC or Keyence
• Experience of automation technologies such as PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, servo systems and robotics
• Hands-on experience troubleshooting electrical, controls and software issues on industrial automation equipment
• The ability to read electrical schematics, panel layouts, safety systems and P&ID drawings
• Knowledge of automated system and robotic risk assessments
• A strong understanding of machine and robotic safety standards
• Experience managing engineering activities against project schedules and milestones
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, particularly when working with customers and multidisciplinary teams.

Desirable

Experience in any of the following would be particularly advantageous:

• Staubli robot programming
• Rockwell / Allen-Bradley safety PLC programming
• HMI programming
• Risk assessments for robotic automation systems
• Motor drives and servo motor control
• Allen-Bradley Studio
• PID control and tuning
• Machine vision platforms including Cognex, FANUC and Keyence.

Travel

The role requires the ability to travel up to 25% , including occasional periods of one to two weeks away while supporting installation, commissioning and customer-site activities.
