Job Title: CNC Operator Job Description

This role focuses on operating CNC mills and lathes in a high-volume automotive manufacturing environment that produces small metal components. The CNC Operator loads raw material into the machines, monitors multiple CNC units within a dedicated cell, and ensures parts are produced accurately and efficiently. The position is designed for button-pushers, with no initial requirement for setups, tooling changes, or blueprint reading, as comprehensive training is provided on all processes. The operator plays a key role in maintaining smooth production flow and supporting quality standards for parts supplied to major automotive brands.

• Load raw metal stock into CNC mills and lathes to produce small automotive components.
• Operate 4–6 CNC machines simultaneously within a closed-off machine cell, maintaining awareness of all equipment.
• Monitor machine operation continuously to ensure smooth production and promptly address basic issues within scope of training.
• Perform visual inspection of machined parts to identify defects, irregularities, or nonconforming features.
• Use quality instruments, after training, to verify that parts meet established quality specifications and tolerances.
• Handle and move parts that typically weigh around 5 pounds and occasionally lift items up to 50 pounds as needed.
• Follow established work instructions, safety procedures, and production guidelines for all machining operations.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area within the machine cell to support safe and efficient operations.
• Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production goals and communicate any concerns about machine performance or product quality.
• Participate in training on setups, tooling changes, and blueprint reading to expand skills and support continuous improvement.
• Work assigned shifts and be available for overtime, including working every other Saturday as required by production demands.

• At least 1 year of experience operating industrial machinery in a production or manufacturing environment.
• Consistent job tenure, typically 1 or more years in previous positions, demonstrating reliability and commitment.
• Ability to safely lift and handle parts weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Strong attention to detail when monitoring multiple machines and inspecting finished parts.
• Positive attitude with a readiness to learn new processes and skills.
• Dependable work habits and willingness to follow established procedures and safety guidelines.

• 1 or more years of experience or exposure to CNC mill and lathe operations.
• Basic familiarity with blueprint reading and interpreting part specifications.
• Experience working in a machining, production, or machine shop environment.
• Comfort working with quality instruments and measurement tools after training.
• Interest in developing skills in setups, tooling changes, and advanced CNC operations through on-the-job training.

The role is based in a machine shop that produces small automotive parts using CNC mills and lathes arranged in approximately 6–7 cells, with about 4 CNC machines per cell. Operators work in closed-off machine cells and typically manage multiple machines at once in a high-volume production setting. The facility maintains a clean floor for an automotive shop and promotes a family-like atmosphere among employees. It is not air-conditioned, so temperatures can become hot during warmer months. Work is performed on one of three shifts—1st shift (7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.), 2nd shift (3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.), or 3rd shift (11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.)—with overtime driven by production requirements and an expectation to work every other Saturday. Appropriate industrial work attire is required to ensure safety and comfort in a machining environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of New Troy, MI.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
