Operations Engineer Chief, Class 8 Start Date: July 1, 2026 | Location: Lincoln High School, Des Moines, Iowa | Position Type: Full‑Time, Non‑Exempt | Salary: $24.43 per hour Job Overview Operations Engineer Chief is the lead custodial staff for Lincoln High School, responsible for supervising custodial employees, ensuring cleanliness, performing maintenance, and coordinating schedules and inventory. The role requires custodial experience, leadership, and pool operations certification. Key Responsibilities Coordinate staff scheduling and maintain inventory of supplies. Conduct basic building safety inspections and perform maintenance and repair of equipment and building facilities. Provide custodial duties, including cleaning inside and outside the building/complex. Assist custodial specialists with preventive maintenance objectives and work schedules. Communicate with operations staff to ensure heating, ventilation, and maintenance during night or day activities. Ensure facility security each night to prevent loss or damage of property and mechanical equipment. Carry out all policies and procedures as set forth for building personnel in operations. Maintain confidentiality and provide leadership to ensure a secure environment. Attend work on a prompt and regular basis and maintain satisfactory relationships with the public, students, and other employees. Perform all cleaning tasks required to maintain the facility. Essential Functions Assure cleanliness inside and outside the building/complex. Order and manage sufficient supplies. Assist custodial specialist to ensure that preventive maintenance objectives are achieved. Assist in preparation of work schedules for staff. Perform tasks assigned by the building administration. Assist director of custodial services and custodial specialists with annual performance evaluations of subordinate employees. Provide leadership for facility security. Carry out all policies and procedures as set forth for building personnel in operations. Additional Essential Functions Attend work on a prompt and regular basis. Maintain confidentiality. Maintain harmonious relationships with the public, students, and employees. Assist with other duties as may be assigned. Qualifications Three years of custodial experience. Two years of leadership experience. Certified Pool Operations license in a building with a swimming pool or ability to obtain within 120 days of the job assignment. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools and computer use. Knowledge of good housekeeping practices, cleaning equipment, broiler room/geothermal system operations, and related equipment. Ability to complete mandatory training and demonstrate a professional appearance and demeanor. Good judgment and promotion of cooperation with others. Competency in a culturally diverse environment. Physical Requirements Constant standing and walking; frequent bending, stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling; occasional lifting up to 50 lbs and carrying up to 10 ft; frequent use of telephone and computer. Work may involve frequent exposure to extremes of temperature and humidity.
