Family Office Controller

O'Neal Oil & Gas Co. is a family-owned enterprise headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas. Alongside its conventional oil and gas operations — 200+ wells across Oklahoma and Arkansas — the family's holdings include commercial real estate, a working ranch, a private scholarship foundation, and related personal and investment entities. The office runs lean, and this position sits at the center of its financial operations. ABOUT THE ROLE We are seeking a Family Office Accountant to serve as the primary accounting professional, with responsibility for day-to-day accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, and financial administration across all family entities. This is a senior, hands‑on role replacing a long‑tenured in-house accountant. Oil and gas accounting is handled by an outsourced provider under this position's oversight; ranch, real estate, foundation, and personal accounting are managed in‑house. The role reports directly to executive leadership and operates with significant autonomy. RESPONSIBILITIES Perform day-to-day accounting across multiple family entities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, journal entries, and general ledger maintenance Own the monthly close process and ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial records Prepare and review financial statements across multiple entities Oversee outsourced oil & gas accounting, including invoice approval, well allocations, joint interest billing, revenue distribution, and financial reporting Develop annual budgets, budget-to-actual analyses, cash-flow forecasts, and financial analyses to support ownership decisions Maintain year-end tax workpapers, supporting schedules, and other documentation required by external CPA firms for tax return preparation Manage payroll and HR administration for up to 10 employees, including payroll processing, tax payments, W-2s, onboarding, offboarding, and benefits coordination Serve as primary liaison to external tax preparers, legal counsel, bankers, insurers, and investment advisors Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting, and efficiency through technology and automation QUALIFICATIONS 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including multi‑entity accounting Oil & gas upstream accounting experience Strong background in financial statement preparation and internal controls Advanced Excel skills and experience with oil & gas and general ledger accounting platforms Ability to work independently, prioritize competing responsibilities, and exercise sound judgment with limited day‑to‑day supervision High level of discretion and professionalism when handling confidential financial and personal information Openness to adopting AI and emerging technologies to streamline routine work; experience with such tools is welcomed but not required COMPENSATION & BENEFITS Competitive salary commensurate with experience, plus benefits.
