Production Supervisor

Job Title: Production Supervisor (CPG) Location: Van Nuys, CA Department: Manufacturing / Production Reports To: Packaging Manager Employment Type: Full-Time Position Summary The Production Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily manufacturing operations within a nutraceutical production facility. This role ensures production schedules are achieved safely, efficiently, and in compliance with current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), FDA regulations, company quality standards, and workplace safety requirements. The Production Supervisor leads production personnel, drives continuous improvement initiatives, and ensures products are manufactured to the highest standards of quality and compliance. Key Responsibilities Production Operations Supervise and coordinate daily production activities across blending, encapsulation, tableting, powder filling, liquid manufacturing, packaging, and labeling operations. Execute production schedules to meet customer demand and on‑time delivery requirements. Monitor production performance, labor utilization, equipment efficiency, and material usage. Ensure accurate completion of batch records, production logs, and all required documentation. Troubleshoot operational issues and coordinate with Maintenance, Quality, and Supply Chain teams to minimize downtime. Manage shift start‑up meetings and communicate daily goals, priorities, and performance expectations. Quality & Compliance Ensure strict adherence to FDA regulations, cGMP requirements, SOPs, HACCP programs, and company quality standards. Verify batch documentation is complete, accurate, and audit‑ready. Partner with Quality Assurance to investigate deviations, non‑conformances, and corrective actions. Support internal audits, customer audits, and regulatory inspections. Promote a culture of quality by ensuring products meet all specifications before release. Team Leadership Lead, coach, and develop production employees to achieve performance and productivity objectives. Conduct employee training, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions when necessary. Foster employee engagement, teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement. Ensure adequate staffing levels and coordinate overtime as needed. Maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive work environment. Safety Enforce all OSHA, environmental, and company safety requirements. Conduct safety observations and promote proactive hazard identification. Investigate workplace incidents and implement corrective actions. Ensure employees utilize appropriate PPE and follow safety procedures. Continuous Improvement Identify opportunities to improve productivity, quality, throughput, and cost efficiency. Participate in Lean Manufacturing, 5S, and Continuous Improvement initiatives. Monitor and report Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), including: Schedule attainment Labor efficiency OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) Yield and waste reduction Quality metrics Downtime performance Qualifications Required High school diploma or GED required. 10+ years of production experience 3+ years of supervisory experience in nutraceutical, dietary supplement, pharmaceutical, food manufacturing, or related regulated production environments. Strong knowledge of cGMP regulations and FDA compliance requirements. Experience managing production teams in a fast‑paced manufacturing setting. Ability to read and interpret batch records, SOPs, and manufacturing documentation. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ERP/MRP systems. Strong leadership, communication, and problem‑solving skills. Preferred Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Operations, Food Science, Biology, Business, or a related field. Experience with dietary supplement manufacturing processes including blending, encapsulation, tableting, packaging, or liquid production. Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement experience. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with or without accommodation. Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, dust, powders, and varying temperatures. Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
