This role ensures safe, compliant, and efficient production by supervising day-to-day operations, coaching and developing staff, and maintaining strict adherence to GMP and SOP requirements. The supervisor actively participates in training, process verification, and documentation to support high-quality, accurate production runs.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise a team of 10–15 employees, including Lead Operators, Production Operators, and Facility Operators, ensuring safe and efficient daily operations.
  • Promote and maintain a collaborative, team-oriented work environment and lead by example in safety, quality, and work ethic.
  • Evaluate employee performance, complete annual performance appraisals, and partner with management to implement corrective discipline when needed.
  • Collaborate with the Production Training Coordinator and Lead Operators to plan, deliver, and monitor effective training for production personnel.
  • Assign personnel to workstations and production suites based on skill level, training status, and production priorities.
  • Perform in-process verifications for production personnel to ensure adherence to GMP, SOPs, batch records, and quality standards.
  • Review executed campaign records and production documentation for completeness, accuracy, and compliance.
  • Analyze production mistakes and deviations, identify root causes, and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
  • Oversee and participate in mixing chemicals to run encapsulation processes, including measuring, weighing, and documenting all production runs.
  • Ensure operators accurately document weights, temperature checks, mixing speeds, and time-stamped readings throughout production.
  • Monitor computer-based process controls, including temperature, mixing speed, pump operation, and other critical parameters during production.
  • Ensure proper setup of fluid bed units, including identifying and assembling parts, configuring pump systems, and verifying readiness for production.
  • Oversee operation of encapsulation equipment during production runs, ensuring operators follow training, SOPs, and safety guidelines.
  • Direct and support thorough cleaning activities, including disassembly of units and power washing and sanitizing production suites after each campaign.
  • Ensure compliance with GMP regulations, SOPs, and batch records in all aspects of production and documentation.
  • Reinforce safe handling of hazardous chemicals, narcotics, and pharmaceutical compounds, and ensure all staff follow required safety protocols.
  • Coordinate workload involving handling 55 lb bags and moving up to 175 lb drums of raw materials, including team lifting when appropriate.
  • Support continuous improvement by identifying process efficiencies, training needs, and opportunities to enhance quality and safety.
  • Communicate shift priorities, production status, and issues to other supervisors and leadership to ensure smooth handoffs between shifts.
  • Support and uphold attendance, reliability, and performance expectations, using references and history to validate consistency and dependability.
Essential Skills
  • 2–5+ years of experience working in a production environment, preferably in food or pharmaceutical settings where chemicals are mixed and SOPs are followed.
  • 2–5+ years of experience documenting production runs and following batch records, including recording weights, temperature checks, and mixing speeds.
  • Proven lead or supervisory experience overseeing production staff or operators.
  • Hands-on experience as a compounder or production operator mixing chemicals in a regulated environment.
  • Strong familiarity with GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) and SOP (Standard Operating Procedures) in a production setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a cleanroom or controlled production environment.
  • Proficiency with basic math, including working with decimals and performing calculations for chemical additions and batch adjustments.
  • High attention to detail, with a track record of accurate documentation and verification (validated through references when possible).
  • Reliable work history with consistent attendance and limited job-hopping (validated through references when possible).
  • Comfort working around hazardous chemicals, narcotics, and pharmaceutical compounds while following safety protocols.
  • Ability to lift 55 lb bags and push or pull drums up to 175 lbs, including participating in team lifts when needed.
  • Ability to climb multiple flights of stairs within three-story production suites during production activities.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Comfort using computer systems during production to monitor processes, enter data, and document readings.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience in pharmaceutical production environments involving particulate-level coating of powders.
  • Background in food industry production environments with strict hygiene and documentation requirements.
  • Experience working as a compounder/operator in a cleanroom environment.
  • Familiarity with fluid bed units, pump systems, and encapsulation equipment.
  • Ability to quickly learn part names and equipment configurations through structured training.
  • Strong organizational skills for managing multiple campaigns, documentation sets, and training activities.
  • Effective communication skills to coach operators, provide feedback, and collaborate with training and leadership teams.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and adherence to best practices in safety, quality, and production efficiency.
Work Environment

This role is based in a cleanroom production facility that performs particulate-level coating of pharmaceutical and food powders. Employees work in separate production suites to prevent cross-contamination, and each suite spans three stories, requiring operators and supervisors to climb two stories of stairs during production. The environment involves regular handling of hazardous chemicals, narcotics, and other pharmaceutical compounds, with strict safety and compliance standards in place. The position requires frequent lifting of 55 lb bags and pushing or pulling drums up to 175 lbs, often with team lifting support. Production activities are highly regulated and follow GMP and SOP requirements, with extensive documentation of batch records, weights, temperatures, mixing speeds, and time-stamped readings using computer systems. The facility operates multiple shifts: 1st shift runs from 7:00 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Monday through Friday; 2nd shift runs from 3:00 p.m. to 11:15 p.m. Monday through Friday with a 6% shift differential; and 3rd shift runs from 11:00 p.m. to 7:15 a.m. Sunday through Thursday with a 10% shift differential. Training typically occurs on 1st shift for approximately 3–4 months before transitioning to 2nd or 3rd shift, at which point the applicable shift differential applies. The dress code requires cleanroom attire, including lab coats, hairnets, and booties worn over shoes. Employees must maintain a dedicated pair of shoes stored at the facility for on-site use only, and uniforms are provided. The work environment emphasizes safety, cleanliness, and discipline, with production suites power washed and sanitized after each campaign. Full-time employees accrue up to 17 days (136 hours) of PTO in their first year, increasing to 22 days (176 hours) per year after the first 12 months, with rollover allowed up to a maximum based on years of service. Accrued PTO can be used immediately upon approval, even during the initial probationary period, and this policy applies to both contract and permanent employees. The role also offers a retention bonus structure, with a total of $2,000 available, paid in two installments after 6 and 12 months of service.
