Job Title Registered Nurse – Step Down Unit (IMC/PCU/Stepdown – Cardiac & Neuro) Location Evansville, IN | Acute Care Schedule / Job Type Contract | 13 Weeks | Full-Time | Onsite | 12-Hour Day Shifts (6:30 AM – 7:00 PM) Key Responsibilities Provide direct patient care on a blended stepdown/medical-surgical unit (19 beds) with a patient population that includes post-procedure cardiac patients (cath, stents, interventions, pacers, ICD, ablation), STEMI/NSTEMI identification and management, carotid endarterectomy, sepsis, neurological conditions (CVAs, seizures, possible TBI), and DKA Perform telemetry monitoring and 12-lead EKG interpretation ; travelers will be required to pass tele competency tests Initiate and titrate drips including Cardizem, Amiodarone, Cardene, Nitroglycerin, Insulin, and Heparin Conduct NIHSS assessments and strong neurological evaluations; manage post-heart cath care including femoral and TR band management Manage chest tubes, PIV insertion, and sepsis care protocols; apply strong critical thinking and assessment skills throughout all patient interactions Float within skillset as needed, including to a secondary campus (approximately 8 miles away) and a third campus across state lines (approximately 11 miles away), with a minimum of 2 hours notice provided for cross-campus floats; may also be required to precept students and new hires as this is a teaching environment Required Qualifications Current, active compact RN license required AHA BLS certification required AHA ACLS certification required NIHSS certification required Minimum of 2 years of solid stepdown experience plus at least 1 travel contract, OR a minimum of 5 years of solid stepdown experience with no travel background Recent Epic EMR experience required (a checkoff class will be required upon start) Must reside at least 40 miles from the facility to be eligible — no local candidates Preferred Experience / Skills Prior travel nursing experience in a stepdown or IMC/PCU setting Experience with blended acuity units serving both stepdown and medical-surgical patient populations Familiarity with cardiac intervention recovery protocols and neuro assessment tools Demonstrated ability to manage complex, high-acuity patients with strong independent critical thinking skills Why Join Us This unit is led by a long-tenured manager recognized for maintaining the lowest staff turnover in the organization, reflecting a stable and supportive work environment Expected 36 hours per week with a consistent day shift schedule; weekend commitment is three weekends per six-week schedule with every other holiday expected Concentric Healthcare Staffing Job ID 793435.
