Job Description

The Associate Director (AD), Patient Engagement Training provides strategic leadership for the timely design, development, and delivery of approved training curriculum supporting Patient Support Programs (PSPs) across AbbVie Patient Services. This role leads a team responsible for creating and delivering franchise-specific learning solutions for Patient Services field teams, including training for new product launches and product enhancements.

The Patient Engagement Training AD builds and leads high-performing team, coaches and develops direct reports, and provides strategic program design and development support across the enterprise product areas. Working closely with internal functions and external partners—including APS Training, Access & Reimbursement, Brand, Patient Services Operations, Business Technology Solutions, AbbVie Access Support, Promotional Material Review, Office of Ethics & Compliance/Legal, Market Access, and vendor partners—the Patient Engagement Training AD aligns interconnected initiatives, influences stakeholders at all levels, advances the AbbVie Patient Services strategic vision, and enhances the end-user experience.

• Provide strategic leadership for the design, development, implementation, and continuous improvement of learning solutions that support Patient Support Programs (PSPs), patient-facing teams, and AbbVie Patient Services business objectives.
• Lead end-to-end training strategy and launch readiness initiatives for new products, indications, program enhancements, operational changes, and technology implementations, ensuring teams are prepared to successfully execute business priorities.
• Partner with senior leaders, including APS Training, Marketing, Patient Services Operations, Access & Reimbursement, Market Access, BTS, Legal, Compliance, and external partners, to align learning strategies with organizational goals and deliver measurable business outcomes.
• Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to develop and execute learning strategies that advance business priorities, accelerate capability development, and drive achievement of franchise objectives, KPIs, and performance outcomes.
• Direct the assessment, design, development, delivery, reinforcement, and evaluation of training programs that build capabilities in disease state knowledge, product knowledge, patient support services, healthcare access and reimbursement, compliance, operational processes, technology systems, and leadership effectiveness.
• Establish and oversee training governance, project prioritization, resource planning, timelines, budgets, quality standards, and performance metrics to ensure successful execution of strategic learning initiatives.
• Lead and develop a high-performing team of training professionals by providing coaching, career development, succession planning, and performance leadership while fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning.
• Champion innovative learning methodologies and delivery channels, including instructor-led, virtual, digital, self-directed, and on-demand learning, while implementing reinforcement strategies such as coaching, certification programs, gamification, and performance support tools to drive sustained behavior change.
• Serve as a trusted advisor to business leaders by identifying capability gaps, recommending learning solutions, and leveraging data, field insights, learner feedback, and business performance metrics to continuously improve individual and organizational effectiveness.
• Ensure all training content, materials, and programs comply with AbbVie policies, promotional review requirements, legal and regulatory standards, and established governance processes.
• Direct cross-functional training initiatives from planning through execution, ensuring alignment of project plans, deliverables, dependencies, and timelines to support launch readiness and operational excellence.
• Represent the Patient Services Training organization as a member of the leadership team, influencing stakeholders across all levels of the organization and advancing the strategic vision, operational excellence, and customer experience objectives of AbbVie Patient Services.
• Required travel to perform duties is approximately 25% of the time.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• 8 -15 years of experience in pharmaceutical industry or equivalent training experience, with management experience demonstrating success in developing & leading effective teams required.
• Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills with the ability to navigate ambiguity, manage competing priorities, and make sound decisions in a dynamic environment.
• Project management experience, managing cross-functional teams and/or external partners through large projects or initiatives.
• Must have proven experience in identifying launch training needs and effectively addressing those needs via design, development and delivery of training plans and curriculum.
• Business planning skills, necessary to diagnose needs, develop, direct, and influence commercial training and organizational development strategies.
• Knowledge of applicable regulations and standards affecting Pharmaceutical Products (e.g., CFR 210/211, cGMP).
• Must be able to communicate effectively and professionally with stakeholders and with cross-divisional teams.

Strongly preferred :

• Knowledge of instructional design systems or extensive experience in training, adult learning principles, development of training and curriculum design are also desirable.
• Patient Services experience.

Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range.
