The service function is directed towards providing a sense of safety and security within the City through enforcement actions, conflict resolution and mediation of disputes, order maintenance, and the protection of life and property. An employee in this class functions under general supervision and must exercise a wide latitude of discretion in relation to the performance of duties, while maintaining professional integrity and adhering to: department policy and procedure, the law enforcement code and canons of ethics, all applicable laws, and the provisions of the Idaho State and United States Constitutions. The work does involve an element of personal danger and an employee in this class must be able to react quickly and appropriately in emergency situations.**Job Specifications: Entry-Level Police Officer*** Must be a citizen of the United States;* Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age;* Must have a high school diploma or equivalent;* Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a good driving record;* Must have a minimum of 60 college credits from an accredited institution as listed in the U.S. Department of Education database or have three (3) years active duty military service, with an honorable discharge;* Must meet the requirements for peace officer certification in the State of Idaho, as outlined by the Idaho Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (a copy of the Rules and Regulations Manual is on file at the Meridian Police Department) and Meridian Police Department policy:* a. No criminal conviction for any felony and certain misdemeanors.* b. No illegal drug use in accordance with Police Department Policy.* Must be of good moral character, and successfully undergo a background investigation, polygraph exam, psychological exam, medical exam and drug screening;* Must adhere to the law enforcement code and canon of ethics;* Willing to enforce and abide by the provisions of the Idaho and United States Constitutions and the duly enacted laws of each, as well as the ordinances of the City of Meridian.**Job Specifications: Lateral Police Officer*** Must be a citizen of the United States;* Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age;* Must have a high school diploma or equivalent;* Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a good driving record;* Must have previous law enforcement training and/or experience;* Must have possess an Idaho Basic POST Certificate in Patrol or out of state equivalent;* Previous fulltime military service preferred;* College degree – academic associate level or higher where are least 60 college credits have been earned preferred;* Must meet the requirements for peace officer certification in the State of Idaho, as outlined by the Idaho Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (a copy of the Rules and Regulations Manual is on file at the Meridian Police Department) and Meridian Police Department policy:* a.
