About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hours Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience License: Required Certifications: BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Charge nurse experience preferred but not required Description: Department consists of 30 private beds with an average census of 20 patients. Nurse to patient ratios are 1:4-6. Common patient diagnoses include dementia, post-surgical care, falls, influenza, pneumonia, failure to thrive, cancer, and COVID-19. Preferred experience includes chest tube management, pain management, TPN, CBI, and wound care. Charge nurses will take patients and may need to perform charge duties if qualified. Certified nursing assistants are typically available on the unit, usually with a ratio of 2-3 per shift. Respiratory therapy equipment, including CPAP, is managed by respiratory therapists. Telemetry monitoring is available on the floor, with dedicated techs for reading monitors. Shifts are from 7 AM to 7 PM, with no self-scheduling; however, block scheduling is accommodated as much as possible for travelers. Weekend requirements include generally every third weekend, with a request for flexibility based on staffing needs. Holidays require a commitment to work every third holiday, particularly during winter holidays. There is no call or standby requirement unless voluntarily requested. Floating to a PCU may be necessary for overflow or very low acuity patients. Dress code allows for any solid color attire with no patterns or designs. Orientation includes two days within the nursing department and one day on the unit.
