Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit - The Children's Developmental Services Agency (CDSA) is one of a statewide network of 17 regional agencies that provide interdisciplinary early intervention supports and services through the North Carolina Infant Toddler Program to infants and toddlers, birth to age three, and their families identified as at risk for or experiencing developmental delays. The CDSA is the local lead agency for the Infant Toddler Program (ITP) in North Carolina, a federally mandated program under Part C of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. The ECU Greenville CDSA is a part of the ECU Brody School of Medicine's Department of Pediatrics and contractually serves as the primary portal of entry for the North Carolina Infant Toddler Program for seven counties in the eastern region of the state: Pitt, Martin, Bertie, Hyde, Beaufort, Greene and Wayne.
Primary Purpose of Position - The Early Intervention Medical Therapeutic Specialist participates as a member of the multidisciplinary early intervention team which supports the needs of young children referred to the CDSA and their families, assuring the provision of one or more of the nineteen (19) services and supports required by the Federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) - Part C. The primary purpose of the position is to provide comprehensive developmental assessment and evaluation, service planning, direct interventions in the area of specialty, and consultation/technical assistance to young children referred, their families, caregivers, team members and service providers within the ITP CDSA network. The Early Intervention Medical Therapeutic Specialist is responsible for: providing eligibility evaluations using standardized testing methods; developmental assessments of strengths and needs; written reports of results with suggested strategies which respond to the goals and priorities of the family; consultation/teaching within area of expertise with families, providers, and service coordinators relative to the outcomes and activities agreed upon on the Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP); and direct therapeutic interventions with children and caregivers within specialty area when a CDSA network provider is unable to meet the needs as outlined on the IFSP. The Specialist may be assigned the responsibility of Service Coordination for select families as needed. This position may provide supervision and consultation to less experienced Specialists and Service Coordinators, service providers within the community, and/or Students and Volunteers.
Minimum Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Experience - Bachelor's or Master's degree in the therapeutic specialty area to which assigned. Some positions may require additional training, certifications, or licensure in speech pathology, audiology, occupational therapy, physical therapy, or other fields. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation - Valid driver's license
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Experience - Experience with the Birth to Three population, family-directed service provision, home and community-based programming, developmental assessments, and evaluations, as well as therapeutic interventions with young children with disabilities and their families in area of specialty. Good verbal and written communication skills.
