BEST Criminal Justice Diversion Police Co-Responder (Sunday-Thursday 3pm-11pm)

Position Summary The Boston Emergency Services Team (BEST) Criminal Justice Diversion Police Co‑Responder (Mental Health Clinician) provides direct, crisis‑response services to children, adolescents, and adults experiencing behavioral health crises. The role collaborates with Boston Police Department officers, conducts on‑site assessments, determines clinical care levels, and links individuals to community mental health, substance abuse, and psychiatric services. Schedule Full Time (40 hrs, Sun‑Thurs, 3p.m.–11p.m.) Responsibilities Respond to 911 calls where behavioral health concerns have been identified, in partnership with first responders. Identify contributing factors to a crisis, complete a comprehensive crisis evaluation, and determine appropriate clinical level of care. Communicate recommendations clearly to first responders, the individual, and their family or community providers. Develop and maintain liaison relationships with community mental health, substance use, homelessness, and related service providers. Refer patients to suitable outpatient services and facilitate warm hand‑offs to receiving providers. Document all cases thoroughly and in a timely manner, maintaining records per program requirements. Provide case consultation as necessary to first responders and community providers. Attend all individual supervisions, clinical and staff meetings. Maintain clinical competency through continuing education and up‑to‑date licensure. Perform related duties as needed to support the BEST program. Requirements Education: Master’s Degree in social work, counseling, or a related field. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: LCSW/LICSW or LMHC license (eligible required). Experience: Crisis response experience across all age ranges; clinical counseling with individuals experiencing behavioral health crises preferred; experience with crisis intervention services and community resources desirable; experience working with first responders desirable. Knowledge & Skills: Knowledge of community resources and agencies; ability to function and make decisions in a fast‑paced environment; interdisciplinary teamwork; cultural sensitivity and comfort with diverse populations; organized work style with thorough documentation; ability to work in a multicultural environment; bilingual or multilingual skills beyond English a plus. Compensation Salary range: $31.73–$46.15 per hour, based on qualifications.
