Medical Director of Heart Failure with Carilion Clinic – Roanoke, VA

Carilion Clinic is searching for a Director of Heart Failure Services to drive the growth and expansion of Heart Failure services across our system of 7 hospitals and multiple outpatient clinics. The primary site for advanced therapies, including LVAD, will be Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital (CRMH), a 703-bed Level 1 Trauma/Academic/Tertiary Care Center, with the Director improving HF care across all clinical sites and the continuum of disease severity.

Join a nationally recognized regional cardiac network with an established and growing Cardiology section supported by a large primary care and specialty referral base, serving nearly one million residents of southwestern Virginia. The successful applicant will lead a team of physicians, Advanced Practice Providers and staff in the continued development of an outstanding Heart Failure Program.

Responsibilities

• Continue development of the current Heart Failure Clinic to improve access and extend the scope of services.
• Identify patients at risk for mortality, hospital readmission, and other adverse events.
• Refine a comprehensive inpatient Heart Failure service including consultative, diagnostic and treatment services for high-risk hospitalized patients.
• Evaluate patients for VAD support including long-term/destination therapy and bridging to transplantation; coordinate care with neighboring transplantation centers.
• Provide formal and bedside teaching of Cardiology Fellows, Internal Medicine Residents and other learners.
• participate in Research as part of Carilion Clinic’s Academic Mission.

Qualifications

• Board Certification in Cardiology
• Board Certification in Advanced Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplantation

About Carilion Clinic and the Cardiovascular Institute

Carilion Clinic’s Cardiovascular Institute will expand significantly over the next twelve months with the opening of the Crystal Spring Tower in 2025. The new tower will house the Cardiovascular Institute and an expanded Emergency Department and will add over 500,000 square feet, featuring:

• 3 Cardiovascular operating rooms
• 2 Endovascular operating rooms
• 2 General Vascular operating rooms
• 6 Cardiac Catheterization labs
• 3 Electrophysiology labs
• 76 Intensive Care and Progressive Care inpatient rooms
• 46 Pre- and Post-care rooms
• 5 Trauma bays (including 1 dedicated pediatric bay – the only in the region)
• 95 Dedicated ED beds
• 40-bed ED observation unit

The Heart Failure Clinic will relocate to the Crystal Spring Tower and will include additional exam rooms and an outpatient infusion suite, with physician and Advanced Practice Provider offices and a conference room for the Heart Failure team.
