Simulation Developer (SME1)

Job Overview The Amentum Space Exploration Division (ASED) is looking for a motivated individual to support the development of physics-based simulation software in support of the Space Launch System (SLS) integrated avionics test facilities (IATF) at Marshall Space Flight Center. The ideal candidate will have a background in simulation development and be proficient in C programming, as well as experience with real-time operating systems and environments. Responsibilities and Essential Functions Design, develop, and test models for hardware-in-the-loop testing of avionics and flight software. Participate in a software development environment. Create and present detailed software designs. Conduct and participate in design and code reviews. Produce weekly and monthly status reports of progress in assigned areas. Work within an integrated customer/contractor team to meet project milestones. Qualifications Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Computer Engineering or an equivalent field. 10+ years of experience in simulation and software development. Intermediate to advanced proficiency in C/C++ programming. Proficiency in Python programming. Experience with Matlab/Simulink simulation development. Design, development, and testing of models and simulations for hardware-in-the-loop testing. Time-domain 6-DOF vehicle simulation experience. Previous experience with the ARTEMIS simulation environment (desirable). Experience with Linux, especially RedHat Enterprise Linux or derivatives. Proficiency working with Unix/Linux file systems, shell, and secure shell. Experience with Git version control. Ability to communicate professionally with customers, stakeholders, and cross-organizational teams. Essential Functions – Work Environment & Requirements Office environment; requires clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100 %). Professional interaction with co-workers, management, and client (100 %). Domestic USA travel up to 5 % of time. Requires work at a computer for long periods (100 %). Physical Requirements Will sit for extended periods in meetings and while writing reports (10 % and 80 % of time respectively). Requires use of stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings (10 %). Equipment & Attendees Operate personal computer, telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator and other general office equipment (100 %). Work Schedule Normal workday 7:30 - 4:30, Monday through Friday; minimal overtime may be required (10 %) to meet schedule milestones. Additional Essential Functions Work independently with minimal supervision; exercise good judgment and make rational decisions (100 %). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and not impose a safety risk or hazard. Proof of U.S. Citizenship is required.
