Title: Robotics/Automation Team and Project Manager

Location: Houston, TX (onsite) - located in North Houston 

(South of Tomball but North of WIllwbrook - not far from the racetrack)

Position Overview
We are seeking a experienced Robotics/Automation Team and Project Lead to drive development, deployment, and field support of robotic and automation systems across manufacturing and service environments. This role combines technical leadership, project management, and hands-on involvement with system integration, welding-related assemblies, and field service coordination. The ideal candidate will balance strategic planning with practical execution to deliver safe, on-time, on-budget automation solutions and to grow a high-performing team.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a cross-functional robotics and automation team, including engineers, technicians, and field service staff.
• Plan, manage, and deliver multiple automation projects from concept through commissioning, ensuring scope, schedule, budget, and quality targets are met.
• Define technical requirements, system architectures, and integration plans for robotic systems, PLCs, machine vision, and related automation components.
• Coordinate field service activities, including installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and customer training at customer sites.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, welding, and production teams to ensure seamless integration of automation into production processes and welded assemblies.
• Oversee vendor selection, procurement, and subcontractor management for hardware, tooling, and specialized services.
• Apply welding knowledge to review fixture design, root cause welding-related issues, and ensure weld quality requirements are integrated into automation solutions.
• Maintain project documentation, risk registers, change control, and compliance with safety and industry standards.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives, including reliability improvements, cost reduction, and process optimization.
• Communicate project status, technical decisions, and risks to stakeholders and senior leadership; prepare reports and proposals as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Robotics Engineering or related technical field; advanced degree preferred.
• 7+ years of experience in robotics and industrial automation, with at least 3 years in a leadership or project lead role.
• Proven project management experience delivering medium-to-large automation projects; PMP or equivalent certification is a plus.
• Practical field service experience with installations, commissioning, and troubleshooting of robotic systems and PLC-controlled equipment.
• Hands-on knowledge of welding processes and the ability to interpret welding symbols, fixture requirements, and quality standards.
• Familiarity with robot programming and controllers (e.g., ABB, Fanuc, KUKA), ROS, PLC programming (Siemens, Allen-Bradley), and machine vision systems.
• Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills with experience mentoring technical staff.
• Experience integrating automation into manufacturing environments and collaborating with production teams to meet throughput and quality goals.
• Ability to manage vendors and contractors, including cost negotiations and performance oversight.
• Willingness to travel to customer sites for field service and installation; valid drivers license required.
