Aerodynamics Engineer for AI Training

Role Overview

Apply your aerodynamics expertise to help improve AI systems that interpret, solve, and explain complex aerospace engineering problems. This remote contract role centers on real-world challenges in external aerodynamics, computational fluid dynamics, wind-tunnel testing, propulsion, and vehicle aerodynamics. Prior AI experience is not required.

Key Responsibilities

• Evaluate and solve advanced aerodynamic design and analysis problems across external aerodynamics, CFD, wind-tunnel testing, propulsion, and vehicle aerodynamics.
• Review AI-generated technical responses for correctness, accuracy, and engineering quality.
• Use practical engineering judgment to assess real-world design scenarios and theoretical aerodynamics questions.
• Analyze and troubleshoot problems using boundary-layer theory, potential-flow analysis, compressible-flow relations, and CFD or wind-tunnel data reduction.
• Provide domain input that improves AI reasoning in aerodynamics.
• Document feedback and communicate clear written and verbal explanations that support AI learning and performance.
• Collaborate remotely with distributed experts and project participants.

Qualifications

• Bachelor''s degree or higher in Aerospace Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering with a thermofluids or aerodynamics specialization, or a bachelor''s degree in Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical Engineering plus 3 or more years of relevant industry experience.
• At least 3 years of hands-on experience in aerodynamic design or analysis, including external aerodynamics, CFD, wind tunnels, propulsion, or vehicle aerodynamics.
• Expert knowledge of compressible and incompressible flow, boundary-layer behavior, turbulence modeling, and propulsion-integration aerodynamics.
• Ability to assess aerodynamic performance using CFD tools, wind-tunnel data reduction, and hand or analytical methods.
• Familiarity with AIAA standards, wind-tunnel test protocols, and CFD verification and validation practices.
• Professional English proficiency and exceptional technical writing, verbal communication, peer-review, critical-analysis, collaboration, and remote-teamwork skills.
• Experience with ANSYS Fluent, STAR-CCM+, OpenFOAM, wind-tunnel testing, or flight-test data analysis is a plus.
• Evidence of rigorous problem-authoring experience is strongly preferred, such as service on an olympiad problem committee, authorship credit for textbook problem sets or solutions manuals, or work as an item writer for an NCEES examination.

Work Terms

• Remote independent-contractor engagement.

Compensation

$60 to $130 per hour.
