Job Summary

This position is a part-time position supporting university police operations working a 12 - hour shift as needed. The primary focus of the dispatcher position is to serve as a conduit in which information is transmitted between the public and police personnel so appropriate action can be taken. Major responsibilities of the position are answering the department's telephone lines and radio systems; dispatching calls, recording information in the records management system, operate the Georgia Crime Information Computer (GCIC), monitor campus alarms and access control system, monitor the closed-circuit television system, and perform other duties as assigned. The ability to multitask is essential for this position.

Responsibilities

1 - Answer the department emergency telephone lines and dispatch police personnel to assist the caller. Record all information on the department's computer aided dispatch system (CAD) as the information is being received. 2 - Operate the Georgia Crime Information Computer to obtain motor vehicle and criminal history information as requested by police personnel. Monitor and respond to police personnel over the department's radio systems. 3 - Monitor all campus alarm systems from the central monitoring station and dispatch officers to the alarm sites. Monitor the University card access system and perform the necessary steps needed to maintain it; place traces on resident's card when requested by the police officers. 4 - Monitor the weather warning equipment and make notifications when needed. Operate the emergency warning system as necessary in order to warn University faculty, staff and students of impending danger.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements High school diploma or GED required. Required Experience Must be a minimum of 18 years of age and U.S. Citizen. Applicant should have well developed keyboarding skills (40 wpm minimum) and be familiar with MS Windows. Applicant must be able to speak English fluently, with a clear voice. Since the dispatcher is responsible for working with multiple pieces of equipment, applicant must have full upper body movement. Applicant must pass a pre-employment drug screen (hair), entry level dispatcher test, voice stress test, psychological screening and extensive background check.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Educational Qualifications Associate's degree Preferred Experience Associate's degree preferred or two years towards a bachelor's degree in criminal justice or related field. Ability to speak Spanish is desired.

Proposed Salary

$18.62 per hour. Paid on a bi-weekly basis.
