Department : Retention and GradInitiatives Salary : 49,400-55,300 Description Manages the day-to-day operations of a large university programor department, including the supervision of staff employees,student workers, programs or processes. Plans and develops procedures for administering a large orcomplex department or program. Manages fiscal activities, including procurement and budgetanalysis. Provides guidance to subordinate staff and evaluatesperformance. Prepares abstracts, research reports, funding proposals,operations and procedure manuals, and other written material anddocumentation. Creates and reviews reports of expenditures andactivities. May administer grants and grant-related related communications,scholarships and other operations. Develops, implements and maintains appropriate policies andprocedures. May serve as property custodian for the department. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. MQ: Education: Requires a thorough understanding of boththeoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical orprofessional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than oneprofessional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normallyobtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree froma college or university or an equivalent in-depth specializedtraining program that is directly related to the type of work beingperformed. Additional Duties The Program Manager II serves as a key contributor to Retention andGraduation Initiatives' efforts to support student transition,engagement, and persistence. The position oversees the planning,implementation, assessment, and continuous improvement oftransition- and retention-focused initiatives, including First-YearCohort initiatives, and specific initiatives for first-yearstudents in UHin4, Cougar Tracks, DENS, the First-Year Class Photo,and other student success programs. This position develops, implements, and assesses programs andservices that support students during key transition points,including entry to the University of Houston, progression throughthe first year, and continued advancement toward degree completion.This position collaborates with campus partners to design andexecute strategic initiatives that promote student engagement,belonging, academic success, and retention. Responsibilitiesinclude monitoring participation and student outcomes, maintainingprogram records, and ensuring alignment with departmental anduniversity goals related to student success and timelygraduation. The position analyzes program data, prepares reports andrecommendations, manages project timelines, supports studentoutreach and engagement efforts, and serves as a liaison amongcampus stakeholders to enhance the student experience and foster aseamless continuum of support from matriculation throughgraduation. Candidate Profile Experience working in higher education, student success,retention, academic advising, orientation, enrollment management,or related areas. Demonstrated commitment to student-centered service andleadership through active listening, collaboration, responsiveness,and mutual respect. Excellent organizational and project management skills with theability to coordinate multiple initiatives, stakeholders, anddeadlines simultaneously. Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communicationskills. Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solvingabilities. Ability to interpret, apply, and communicate policies,procedures, and program requirements accurately andconsistently. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain collaborativerelationships with students, faculty, staff, and campuspartners. Experience planning, coordinating, and evaluating programs,events, and student engagement initiatives. Ability to work independently while contributing to an collaborative, team-oriented environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel,PowerPoint, and Outlook. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, EducationalLeadership, Counseling, Public Administration, or a relatedfield. Two or more years of professional experience in student success,retention, first-year experience, academic support, advising,orientation, enrollment management, or related areas in highereducation. Experience supporting first-year student transition, engagement,and retention initiatives. Experience developing, implementing, and assessing studentsuccess programs using data-informed practices. Experience planning and coordinating large-scale studentprograms, events, and engagement activities. Experience working with student information systems and studentsuccess technologies such as PeopleSoft, EAB Navigate, Salesforce,Slate, or similar platforms. Knowledge of student retention, persistence, and degreecompletion strategies in a higher education setting. Experience facilitating presentations, workshops, trainings, oroutreach initiatives for students and campus partners.
