Automotive Mechanic

THE POSITION Join the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation as an Automotive Mechanic and help keep our operations moving smoothly. DESCRIPTION OF WORK In this position you will focus on maintaining and repairing a diverse fleet of vehicles, equipment, and tools that support daily transportation operations. You will ensure safe, reliable performance of essential machinery used throughout Luzerne County. As a Automotive Mechanic, you will perform the following duties: Vehicle Maintenance: Perform repairs and preventive care on cars, trucks, tractors, and construction equipment System Repairs: Carry out work on electrical, cooling, suspension, fuel, brake, steering, and driveline systems Safety Inspections: Complete official state safety and emissions inspections and prepare required records Field Service: Provide emergency road assistance and conduct maintenance and adjustments at field locations Equipment Care: Clean, service, and document maintenance activities to support safe and efficient operations Environmental Compliance: Follow environmental protection requirements and complete designated training Work Schedule and Additional Information Full-time employment Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Work schedule is subject to change based on weather/season. Winter shifts are 4:00 AM to 12:00 PM or 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: Four years of experience in the automotive mechanic trade; or completion of an approved apprenticeship; or Any combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledges, skills, and abilities. Special Requirements: This position requires possession of a valid driver's license which is not under suspension. You must be a Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Certified Inspection Mechanic for Class 1 vehicles. You must obtain a CFC-12 Refrigerant Recycling Certificate and a 134A Refrigerant Recycling Certificate upon hire and continuously maintain it while employed in this job. Additional Requirements: You must provide your own mechanics toolbox and basic tool set. You must be able to perform essential job functions.
