Description of Duties The Assistant Coach is expected to be thoroughly familiar with and in compliance with all Athletic Department, NCAA, PSAC, and sport specific governing policies. This includes: Responsibility for passing the NCAA coaches certification exam during May of the previous year. Responsibility for assisting the Head Coach in the execution and completion of the necessary forms and other related administrative work involved in the sport. Self-reporting violations to the Head Coach, Director of Athletics and Compliance Officer when the coach has actual knowledge of a violation. Responsibility for treating the academic achievement and requirements necessary for progress toward a degree as a matter of the highest priority for the student athlete. Responsible for effectively recruiting qualified student-athletes to attend Lock Haven University in accordance with NCAA, PSAC, and University policies. Abiding by the Code of Conduct for Coaches found in the Policy and Procedures Manual. The Assistant Coach is responsible for conducting him or herself in a professional manner that is above reproach. This includes: Responsibility for exhibiting a high level of expertise in his/her sport and to seek self-improvement by attending clinics, workshops, seminars, and other related professional development programs. Responsibility for representing the University on the highest professional level with appropriate dress, sportsmanship, etiquette, dignity, integrity, strength of character while exhibiting ethical behavior. Responsibility for treating opposing coaches, officials, students, and colleagues with appropriate respect and dignity. Responsibility to attend and participate in all athletic department activities including but not limited to: staff meetings, Hall of Fame Banquet, Academic Awards Ceremony, Golf Tournaments, etc. Responsibility to assist the Head Coach in the scheduling, promotion and organization of the details for special events related to their program, including but not limited to: Senior Night/Day, Parents Socials and Alumni Celebrations. Responsibility for actively involvement in other areas of the University through service on committees as necessary. Demonstrate a commitment to issues of social equity and continue to develop professionally in the area of multicultural competence. The Assistant Coach adheres to deadlines and dates for the timely preparation and completion of all administrative processes, forms and related materials. This includes: Submission of, in advance, his/her monthly and annual work schedule for approval by the Head Coach with a copy to the Director of Athletics. Adherence to all departmental recruitment practices and processes, including: use of the recruiting form; submission of documentation with 24 hours; and demonstration of commitment to recruitment of diverse athletes. Adherence to all University, SAA and departmental policies and procedures for athletic finances, including: purchasing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, petty cash, camp and clinics, fund-raising, handling of receipts for deposits or credits. Responsibility for assisting Head Coach with fund-raising to enhance their sports grant-in-aid budget and compliance with University and Foundation policies for all fund-raising activities. Completion of annual written performance appraisal which is provided to the Director of Athletics. Submission of current CPR, AED. And First Aide certifications. The Assistant Coach is responsible for assisting the Head Coach with the reservation of facilities needed; safe utilization of facilities and equipment; and for communication with the appropriate individuals about the condition of equipment and facilities. This includes: Responsibility for assisting the Head Coach with providing in cooperation with facility management a safe environment for all practices, scrimmages, games, and events related to the program. Responsibility for assisting the Head Coach with providing on-site supervision during all practices, scrimmages, games, and events related to the program. Responsibility for assisting the Head Coach with working with the equipment manager to distribute inventory, maintain, collect and store equipment and uniforms used within the program. The Assistant Coach is responsible for assisting the Head Coach with providing instruction, training, and oversight necessary for student athletes to assure that the development of skills, techniques, and physical conditioning is sufficient to enable each student-athlete to compete safely and competently. This includes: Responsibility for assisting the Head Coach with planning and executing practice and game plans. Responsible for assisting the Strength and Conditioning Coach(s) with the supervision of strength and conditioning/recovery programs. Responsibility for reporting all serious injuries of student-athletes to the Head Coach, Director of Athletics and the Athletic Training Staff within 24 hours of the injury. The Assistant Coach is responsible for assisting the Head Coach with monitoring and oversight of student athlete and team activities that effect student eligibility and satisfaction with their overall athletic experiences. This includes: Responsibility for assisting Head Coach with team supervision when using residence halls during pre-season camps and non-session breaks. Responsibility for assistant Head Coach with implementing and/or participating with your team in a variety of Community Service projects. Responsibility for assisting Head Coach with managing the activities of his/her squads in a fair-mindful, consistent, honest, efficient, and financially responsible manner. The Assistant Coach is responsible for timely and appropriate communication with all levels of personnel within the University and external constituencies. Responsibility to keep the Head Coach informed of all team happenings, whether positive or negative. Utilizing athletic department designee for communication with designed institutional offices, including: admissions, financial aid, and residence life. Responsibility for earning and sustaining the good will of the various publics, such as: community, student body, faculty/staff, parents, alumni and media. Responsible for other duties as assigned by the Head Coach or Director of Athletics. Decision Making N/A Fiscal Responsibility N/A Supervisory Responsibility N/A Minimum Requirements Profile A Bachelors Degree is required Successful experience in coaching Field Hockey as an assistant coach on the collegiate level is required or an equivalent combination and training that may include successful professional, high school or club coaching experience. Preferred Qualifications Masters Degree is preferred. Intercollegiate coaching experience.
