Senior Controls Engineer

Beckman Coulter Diagnostics seeks a Senior Controls Engineer to lead automated control system design and deployment across the product lifecycle. The role combines technical expertise in industrial automation with cross-functional project leadership, supporting equipment for material handling, filling, capping, labeling, and palletizing in a diagnostic manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Develop user requirement specifications, automation concepts, and architectural designs for automated equipment with cross-functional teams
- Execute end-to-end projects with external suppliers including design, implementation, installation, and troubleshooting while ensuring compliance
- Design and program industrial control systems including PLCs, robotics, HMIs, vision systems, and motion control
- Participate in design reviews and provide technical guidance to support engineering decisions and project status updates
- Drive best practices across automation engineering team tollgates including procurement, supplier design, testing, and FAT/SAT
Requirements
- Bachelor's in engineering or mechatronics with 5+ years experience, or Master's with 2+ years
- Proficient in PLC programming including ladder logic and structured text
- Experience with AC/DC drives, servo motors, HMIs, machine vision systems, and safety systems
- Project management and equipment commissioning experience with regulatory compliance knowledge
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for cross-functional technical collaboration
- Ability to travel up to 15% to internal and supplier sites
Compensation: $115,000–$125,000 base; eligible for bonus/incentive pay
