This position is with the UNC Health Peds Gastro (Inpatient) team. The schedule is Monday through Friday with both morning and evening shifts. Summary A Nurse Practitioner functions as part of the interdisciplinary healthcare team, providing high‑quality, cost‑effective care within the scope of practice approved by the credentialing committee. The role collaborates closely with a supervising physician and reflects the mission, vision, and values of UNC Health while complying with all relevant regulations and accreditation standards. Responsibilities Clinical – Obtain medical history, perform physical assessments, review diagnostic test results, develop differential diagnoses, and implement evidence‑based treatment plans, including prescribing and ordering medications. Conduct preventive health screening, maintain comprehensive patient records, and participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives. Education – Educate clients, families, and staff about medical conditions and treatments. Develop educational materials and provide instruction to physicians, housestaff, nursing, and ancillary personnel. Identify and pursue self‑learning needs through education programs. Leadership – Provide precepting, shadowing, and training for physicians, housestaff, nursing, and ancillary staff. Lead outreach programs and systems improvement projects to optimize healthcare delivery. Professional – Maintain respectful, courteous, and timely communication with patients, families, and coworkers. Respond quickly to patient needs, accept responsibility for outcomes, and share workload with the team. Quality/Research – Engage in continuous quality improvement, lead interdisciplinary teams, revise protocols and guidelines, and influence policy‑making bodies to enhance patient care. Develop new clinical programs to improve service delivery. Other Information Education Requirements Completion of an accredited graduate‑level Advanced Practice Provider (APRN or PA) program. Licensure/Certification Requirements Licensed as an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, Clinical Pharmacist Practitioner, Certified Nurse Midwife, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist) in North Carolina. Board certification if required by the Department. DEA registration. Professional Experience Requirements No prior experience required. Knowledge / Skills and Abilities Requirements Demonstrated clinical competency. Effective leadership and strong interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively. Excellent written and verbal communication and analytical skills. Effective interaction to ensure successful patient care. Accurate documentation in the medical record for billing purposes.
