Job Title Assistant Store Manager Classification & Revision Date Hourly, non-exempt, subject to overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act. Revision Date: 01/2018 Job Purpose To assist the Manager with day‑to‑day store operations and store performance. Responsible for opening/closing the store, daily bank deposits, keeping the register stocked with adequate change, addressing customer/donor needs and complaints in the Manager’s absence, and supervising store employees. Qualifications Education: High School Diploma or GED Experience: Two years of retail sales experience and one year of supervisory experience Clearances: Must be able to obtain acceptable results for required background checks, including Act 151 Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, Pennsylvania Criminal History Check, and Department of Human Services‑FBI Fingerprints Supervision Received The Assistant Store Manager functions under the direct supervision of the Senior Store Manager or Store Manager. Supervision Exercised In the absence of the Senior Store Manager or Store Manager, the Assistant Store Manager supervises all associates working in the retail store. Responsibilities Stocks and maintains interior and exterior of store in a neat, clean and orderly manner. Motivates employees to reach production guidelines. Uses cash register to total sales, accepts payments, authorizes voids, returns, exchanges and credit for merchandise; balances cash register receipts and prepares daily bank deposits. Maintains records of store transactions for each business day as scheduled and ensures correct sales reports are submitted on a daily basis. Maintains safe and appropriate conditions in shopping and backroom areas. Assists customers/donors by selling merchandise or accepting donations of used goods. Follows company policies and safety procedures for all undertakings while on the job. In the Manager’s absence trains and assists other store employees. Assists with conducting workplace orientations for new hires as needed and maintains personnel packets in a secure manner. May have more supervisory responsibility if the manager is absent or on vacation. Informs the Manager of significant issues or incidents, including the personnel and customer needs. Maintains regular attendance with the ability to work a flexible schedule on short notice, including evenings, weekends and occasionally long hours. Maintains excellent hygiene/grooming standards. Communicates effectively, both verbally and in writing, with customers, donors, co‑workers and staff. Has knowledge of men’s, women’s and children’s clothing, as well as furniture and household items. Performs basic job duties with minimal supervision, exercising good judgment and initiative. Participates in store loss control by monitoring customers and employees and reporting suspicious activity. Ensures the store, processing area and donation center remain clean and safe by practicing good housekeeping practices or delegating those tasks. Observes safety procedures and personnel policies and ensures employee compliance. Acts as a positive role model for employees, trainees and customers. Ensures the store is open and operational during designated hours of operation. Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 30 lbs. frequently. Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs. occasionally; material handling equipment can be used to minimize effort. Ability to perform prolonged walking and standing. Ability to perform frequent bending, stooping, and stretching. Vision and hearing corrected to within normal limits. Knows different shades and tones of color. Familiar with merchandise across various categories (name brand, antiques, vintage, collectibles).
