EMS Instructor - Paramedic

The EMS Instructor - Paramedic is responsible for the planning, delivery, administration, and evaluation of the agency’s High School Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) education program. This position serves as a member of the EMS Training Division and will assist in agency education programs, continuing education, simulation training, and other duties assigned under the direction of the EMS Training Battalion Chief.

Role and Responsibilities

High School EMT Program

  • Plan, organize, coordinate, and manage all aspects of the High School EMT Program under direction of the EMS Training Division
  • Deliver classroom, practical laboratory, and scenario-based instruction
  • Schedule and coordinate classroom sessions, skills laboratories, clinical rotations, and field internships
  • Monitor student academic performance and provide updates to the EMS Training Battalion Chief
  • Evaluate student competency through written examinations, practical skills testing, and scenario evaluations
  • Maintain student records, attendance, grades, competencies, and required documentation
  • Coordinate National Registry and Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS) certification preparation
  • Ensure compliance with TDSHS requirements and program standards when applicable
  • Maintain communication with the EMS Training Division, school administrators, counselors, and parents
  • Recruit prospective students and participate in educational outreach activities

EMS Training Division

  • Teach continuing education courses for EMTs, Advanced EMTs, and Paramedics
  • Update course curriculum to reflect current evidence-based EMS practice
  • Assist with annual competency assessments
  • Support new employee orientation
  • Develop multimedia presentations, skills stations, simulation exercises, and examinations
  • Create simulation scenarios and practical evaluations
  • Participate in protocol implementation and rollout training
  • Serve as an instructor or observer during disaster drills, mass casualty exercises, and community education programs
  • Maintain agency training records and documentation
  • Assist with special projects assigned by the EMS Training Division

Education, Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • TDSHS EMT-Paramedic Certification or Licensed Paramedic Required
  • TDSHS EMS Instructor Certification Required
  • AHA BLS & ACLS Required
  • AHA PALS Required within 90 days of hire
  • Previous EMS Experience Preferred
  • Previous EMS Instructor Experience Preferred
