About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Intensive Care Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Days every other week Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum of 2 years required License: Active nursing license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: Experience with IABP and Prismaflex CRRT preferred. Strong EKG reading skills. Experience in weaning and troubleshooting ventilators. Description: Clinicians must take and pass a dysrhythmia exam within two attempts prior to signing the contract. If clinicians fail to score 80% in two attempts, they will be unable to work with the organization for six months. Candidates should not have been employed with any facility within the past year. The nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:1-2 in ICU per acuity/staffing and 1:3-4 in PCU. Common patient diagnoses include COVID, manual proning, low-level neuro, EVD, DKA, sepsis, ARF, and post-MI surgical patients. Nurses will care for patients with various medical interventions, including chest tubes, art lines, and SWAN catheters. Travelers will care for fresh open-heart patients if they have the required experience and skills. Nurses should be able to interpret ABGs. All critical care drips such as pressors, paralytics, and sedation require titration. Charge nurses generally do not take assignments unless necessary and will assist with rapid responses and code blue situations. There is a house supervisor present 24/7 with some exceptions. Respiratory therapy covers all areas but is not in the ICU 24/7. Nurses should be familiar with ventilators and equipment such as BPAP, CPAP, and HFNC. Nurses will monitor their own telemetry while no tele/monitor techs are present on the unit. Shifts are scheduled four weeks in advance with some self-scheduling options available. Weekend requirements include four weekend shifts per pay period. There are holiday requirements during winter holidays, with one holiday and the eve of another required. If census is low, travelers may be placed on call, but this is not scheduled. Travelers may float to other units as needed. Scrub color must be professional; camo scrubs are not allowed. Nurses will receive a general hospital orientation and unit-specific orientation as necessary. Cancellation policy allows for a specified number of shifts per contract. Charting system used is Cerner. BSN is not required. Trauma level care setting is acute. Division is nursing. Shift notes include every other weekend and floating as needed. Required certifications are ACLS and BLS.
