Supervisory CBP Agriculture Specialist

Summary : This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations, Baltimore Field Office, Port of Baltimore. Salary range $121,785 to $158,322 (GS‑13 Step 1–10). Closing date May 26, 2026. Responsibilities Supervise shift operations and oversee the Agriculture Program at Ports of Entry. Provide technical advice on interpretive techniques and regulatory requirements for agriculture‑related cargo. Guide CBP Agriculture Specialists and interact with carriers, brokers, researchers, industry, travelers, agencies, and foreign entities on agricultural cargo admissibility and compliance. Apply federal, state, and local laws and regulations concerning agriculture commodities, pests, diseases, and potential agro‑terrorism. Provide guidance and training, communicate intelligence and enforcement information, disseminate new procedures and policy changes to direct reports, and ensure efficient flow of legitimate trade. Requirements U.S. Citizen. Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered with Selective Service. Primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years. All pre‑employment processes conducted in English. Possible background investigation and drug testing. Basic Qualification Degree: Bachelor's (or higher) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, animal science, plant science, pest management, or related disciplines. OR Combination of education and experience: at least 24 semester hours (36 quarter hours) in a qualifying field plus qualifying experience or additional education, meeting calculated percentage threshold of 100%. Specialized Experience 1 year of specialized experience at GS‑12 level or equivalent, performing duties such as consulting CBP Officers, conducting visual and physical inspection of cargo, applying laws and regulations, gathering intelligence, and mentoring subordinate specialists. Background Investigation All applicants must undergo a thorough background investigation prior to employment. Medical and Physical Requirements Candidates must complete a medical screening and be medically and physically capable of performing essential job functions and duties without endangering safety. Residency Non‑CBP employees must physically reside in the United States or its protectorates for at least three of the last five years. Exception pathway available for certain federal employees, dependents, study abroad participants, and contractors. Probationary Period All new federal employees serve a one‑year probationary period. Training Required training includes 10 days pre‑academy, 59 days paid training at USDA and FOA, and 13 weeks post‑academy training at the duty station.
